His first name is Ippo and his last name is Makunouchi. Most people call him Makunouchi because that's the proper way to address someone in Japan. You only call someone by his/her first name if you're really close to that person and they allow you to do so. Ippo's main bully is calling him by his first name in order to mock him. Also, the younger trainer isn't named Yagi-chan, it's Yagi. Chan is just a term of endearment you add onto a name. This is one of my favorite anime of all time, so I'm glad you're enjoying it so far 👍
