Unohana vs Kenpachi is such a great fight, but such a sad result. Unohana gave up her life to unlock Kenpachi's potential. They both love to fight more than anything else, but they have different philosophies in regards to that. Unohana learned kaido in order to make her battles last longer, while Kenpachi subconsciously lowered his fighting ability to his opponent's to enjoy his fights to the fullest. She fulfilled her purpose, but it does make me wonder how differently things would've turned out in previous arcs if she had gotten involved as Yachiru and not as the captain of squad 4? The food palace would indeed be a great place for Luffy (and Goku, too). Ichigo and Renji at Oh-Etsu's palace is interesting because the result of those 3 days suggests that Renji knows himself much better than Ichigo knows himself. Ichigo doesn't really know anything about himself and all the asauchi could feel that.

btw every time Zaraki "passed out' he did die essentially, Unohana used her zanpacto to heal his wounds so he could continue the fight, each death removing the limiters he put onto himself.

Oh yeah, no spoiler but they did bring up squad 0 in the OG series. If you remember during the "Turn Back The Pendulum " arc, a captain was promoted to squad 0. This was Kirio Hikifune (the pink hair member). Then Urahara replaced her as captain (which is part of why Hiyori was reluctant to accept Urahara at first)

Ron as Ichibei (Baldy) explained, Squad Zero are tasked with protecting the royal palace not the Seireitei. They only step in if the Royal Palace is being threatened. As the Thirteen Court Guard Squad Captains, they are responsible for the protection of the Seireitei and therefore if they fail to do so, it is on THEM not Squad Zero. Oh-Etsu was the first to create the Zanpakuto, before him there were no Zanpakuto. During Unohana and Zaraki's duel, the reason why Zaraki was blacking out so much is because Unohana kept killing him and then healing him before he fully died. As she explained, Zaraki only grows on the verge of death so she needed to push him to that point constantly until he grew and changed his mindset of always suppressing his power. in the turn back the pendulum arc i think Kyouraku and Ukitaki were talking about people who been captains for a long time included him ukitaki and the captain commander and ukitaki reminded him about unohana and joked about how he couldnt forget her and they started laughing and unohana showed up at that moment and they both froze and stopped laughing and changed the subject

[Tidbits Ep.10] - Many people argued "Why not keep both Alive" which makes logical sense, but therein lies the problem, Kenpachi's don't live by logic. The 11th division has constantly shown the viewers that they prioritize their own satisfaction over logic, Kenpachi quickly joined Ichigo's side cause he wanted to have a good fight, Ikkaku let the pillar be destroyed because he wants to stay under Zaraki, Yumichika was going to die and let the pillar be destroyed cause he wanted to be under Zaraki...this division has ALWAYS put their desires 1st. Unohana was the 1st Captain of this division and she's the same, her purpose is passing the baton and enjoying the thrill of battle, and she certainly treats it as a Parent passing the torch to a child. - Ohetsu says that Ichigo never had an "Asauchi" which as we just learned is the basis of a real Zanpaktou, this means Ichigo throughout the entire series has never had an actual Zanpaktou, meaning he never had real Shinigami power...so now the question is what was the source of his power if not his Shinigami powers?. (This was actually brought into Question when Ichigo 1st used Bankai against Byakuya, Byakuya points out that Ichigo's Bankai is abnormal it doesn't really work in the way all the others work) - People tend to forget that Ichigo while prodigal, is still a kid, who still carries trauma. That's why it's easy to see why he'd fail at training in this compacity. Unlike Renji and most of the other Captain class Shinigami, Ichigo hasn't had hundreds of years to master himself and come to terms with his issues. Yes Ichigo has improved and gotten stronger but he still has yet to come to terms with even his hollow side, that issue hasn't been brought up since defeating Ulquiorra and he still very much takes responsibility for his mother's death. - We now know that the scene with Unohana and Kenpachi melting is more so symbolic. Though we still don't know enough details to answer whether it could possibly melt people. - Sidenote: This fight between Kenpachi and Unohana looks even better in the Blu-Ray version. They made some amazing corrections to really assist it.

Good reaction. It was explained that whenever zaraki blacked out unohana actually killed him and brought him back to life. That also happened at their first encounter when zaraki was still a child (as explained by zaraki himself)

In the manga, we got more information regarding a destroyed Bankai. Bankai is essentially the deepest essence of one's soul, and its destruction signifies a major event that significantly changes one's perspective. In Ichigo's case, it was the reveal of his mother, as his mother's death shaped his motivation. Ikkaku, who had his Bankai destroyed, only has a makeshift one, meaning it is nowhere near as good as the original. Renji also had parts of his Bankai destroyed during his fight with Byakuya, which explains why he has a poor record in battles. Komamura, on the other hand, is so in line with himself that even if his Bankai gets destroyed, as long as he can heal his wounds, the Bankai would get restored as well. 14:21 Kirio was referenced in the Turn Back The Pendulum arc. She was Hiyori's captain before she got promoted to Squad 0. That was the first time we got to know that Squad 0 had existed. Urahara was the one who replaced Kirio after she went to Squad 0. In OG Bleach, Kaien was shown to be similar to Ichigo. Now we know why, as they are cousins. Which explains why Byakuya, Rukia and Ukitake acted in a certain way. Also, it adds to how Ichigo and Ganju had a funny chemistry out of the blue as well. Remember how Ichigo wanted to take back Ginjo's body to give him a funeral in the living world? That was done so that he could enter the circulation of souls to get into the Soul Society(SS). Tsukishima and Giriko were confirmed dead in the living world, and they too passed on to the SS. The hot springs that Urahara had in his training area during the OG Bleach were modelled after Tenjiro's. Grimmjow was never confirmed to be dead in the OG Bleach. The last time we saw him, he was going to be killed by Nnoitora, but Ichigo stepped in. Love how Michelle pointed out how Shunsui changed his personality following Yama's death. That shows how he's pushing himself to act like a leader, but whether that would be good for him or not remains to be seen in future episodes. Unohana's reveal as the first Kenpachi also ties up one plot point that we got in OG Bleach. Her true full name is Unohana Yachiru. Yachiru is also the name that Zaraki gave to his lieutenant in respect to the only person he admired. A nice way of showcasing the history between Zaraki and Unohana. 44:30 They did address why the Squad 0 did not come down to fight the war, Ron. Their job is to protect the Royal Palace, not the Seireitei. Also, the Gotei 13 in the past had dealt with the Quincies before, so it would make sense why they expect them to do the same again. The Unohana reveal had very subtle hints right from the get-go. In the manga, the panel in which she was revealed for the very first time had her face blacked out, indicating that there's something more to her than what it seems. Also, while it was used as a comedic relief, there were many occasions where people, even captains like Shunsui, seemed scared of Unohana. Basically, the blackouts Kenny had were him actually dying and Unohana healing him afterwards. Michelle also said the fight is unique, and that's true. The whole fight is a mother nurturing her child, plus Unohana's Bankai literally being presented as a childbirth. In OG Bleach, we got info from Tosen that our Kenny killed the previous Kenpachi to take the spot. That was slightly shown in this triple drop. So one can conclude that Unohana actually retired from Squad 11 and became a healer of Squad 4. Someone else became the captain of Squad 11, and through one means or another, the name was passed down through several generations. Since Unohana was the first Kenpachi, she was never able to give that title to our Kenny, as he was just a child back then and had suppressed himself following his fight with Unohana.

It's been a long time but do yoy remember the first time we saw Unohana speak with Aizen under central 46. At the moment he became the villain of the story, he destroyed Hitsugaya but wanted absolutely nothing to do with her at that moment. She was stronger than him at that point of the story and he knew that.

I think during Unohana's Bankai when it showed her and Kenpachi as Skeletons this was to demonstrate that for Kenpachi it was peeling away his restraints and shackles and for her it was her washing away her sin. In the Manga a lot of people thought her Bankai involved some sort of acid or corrosive liquid because of this.

after this EP until now i still cant move on about Unohana,she has become my ultimate badass mommy. How dare Kubo drop the bomb about her whole true self only to take it away forever. Also Minazuki to me is the most scary & beautiful Bankai of all time HANDS DOWN hearing her say it again brings goosebump all over me. About Ron saying what why they dont aid Seiretei when it was attack already mentioned,they all have their Jobs to protect,Squad 0 needs to protect the Soul King ad the Royal Palace.They cant leave their post while the threat is clear on sight,they can only hope 13 Court Squad could manage it.

The royal guard was mentioned in the Shinji and the visored back story arc. Kirio was the captain that was promoted to the royal guard and hiyori was pissed urahara took her place.

Regarding Unohana and Kenny, each "black out" was her killing him over and over, and then healing him back before he goes lights out. So shes bringing him to the edge of death and back, because this is where the real Kenny is lying dormant. That one stab to her chest is where he started surpressing his powers because she is the first one to really challenge him and let him experience joy for the first time but because he was stronger than her, he was able to wound her. In that moment, she realized his sadness that rose from fear of killing her and going back to live a boring life and blamed her self for doing that to him. That is her "curse" So thats also why she did not give him the title Kenpachi from then and then went on to learn healing abilituies. She always knew that from the moment she found the next Kenpachi she would have to die to pass on the title to him. Only, she took a more nurturing way to do it and that is the fight you just saw. She kills him over and over to reverse the damage she did to him by making him feel she would not last if he went all out. In the end we see that hes himself but he still can get stronger but she could only last up to this point against him. Thats why she said that he now has enemies that he can go even further with and also friends that can fight with him on equal footing so he doesnt go back to supressing himself anymore. This is why i love Unohana so much! From that one wound to her chest she dedicated her life to him essentially, to ensure that he is able to find the joy of battle he loves so much and craves for. Shes truly a beautiful person in a murderous type of way lol

The last three episodes of this were some of the wildest reveals in anime. Felt so stupid after because it was so evident yet at the same time it wasnt

In the ending of the Fullbringer arc, Ichigo went to Soul Society to retrieve Ginjo's body to bury it in the Living World. Rukia stated that doing so would be equivalent to asking for his pardon, which implies that they were going to seal Ginjo in Soul Society to prevent his passing. Ichigo brought Ginjo's body to bury him as a human which allows his soul to pass on to Soul Society It was mentioned the first time we're introduced to Kenpachi when he approached Ichigo for a fight that he intentionally handicaps himself because he's so strong that he can't enjoy a good fight. That's the reason why he wears that eyepatch that absorbs his spiritual pressure. The only thing we didn't realize was that he was not only holding himself back consciously, but subconsciously too like Unohana said and that the only way to reverse that was to bring him to the edge of death. Kenpachi's an adrenaline junkie like those guys that climb skyscrapers without safety gear for the rush, he gets high off of that.

Kenpachi isn't the only secret weapon. He is one of the secret weapons, I would say Ichigo is Secret Weapon #1 cause is the MC lmaoo. Also I don't think Unohana did it for the greater good honestly. She said it herself, if they weren't so strong, both Kenpachi and Unohana would be criminal. I think if SS didn't exist, the amt of body lying around would be prob in the millions or billions. But since SS exist, they want to find a worthy opponent, they follow the law to stay alive until they meet that worthy foe. Imagine if they were just going around killing people, Yamamoto would kill them. I don't think Kenpachi cares about SS, other than that if he didn't, he might just be killed. Plus allying with Soul Society allows him to fight strong opponents like Ichigo, Quincies, Arrancar, stuff like that. Kenpachis are not about upholding the law, they are finding their greatest joy.

[Tidbits Ep.9] - It was removed from the last episode but you learn that the springs that Urahara created are based on Tenjiros (Like the Spring we saw when Yoruichi revealed her human form that Ichigo was recovering in) -Unohana being a Kenpachi was heavily foreshadowed throughout the entire series, it's the reason why squad 11 members were so afraid of her, It's why Aizen knew she'd catch on to his lie, and why even Captains like Shunsui and Ukitake feared her. (Another cool bit is that Aizen tried to seal Kenpachi in Hueco Mundo to avoid them until he was immortal) -This is our 1st time hearing Unohana's other name, which is Yachiru, the same name Zaraki gave to his Lieutenant when he found her. If you go back to that scene, Kenpachi said it's the name of someone he admired. (Unohana's fake name was even a Hint "Retsu" means Violent in Japanese) -Buff Kon was another comedy bit removed from the last episode, so it may feel a bit random here. - Kubo has stated on Klub outside that he has an entire backstory for Unohana, he just hasn't found a place to show it. -It's cool to see the politics with Shunsui, it shows a stark difference between him and Yama. Yama simply upheld the law, as long as peace was the goal he honestly didn't care much...but Shunsui is a bit different, more experimental, and he's willing to do things that Yama would never do. (Also it's important to remember that while Shunsui is one to seek out conflict he is very sinister once it starts. We saw this with Starkk and how Shunsui fights, he cares little about playing dirty and will do whatever needs to be done.) Sidenote - [Thought on the Kenpachi crying bit] -What's really cool about the characterization is that while on the front it may seem like "Kenpachi is crying cause he just wants to win". It's slightly deeper, the important part is the context he spoke before that, you can assume he went about feeling empty, feeling nothing until he meet Unohana, He admires her because she's the only person to ever make him feel something, to feel alive, to have a purpose. This plays into his overall character, so when he's pestering Ichigo for a fight it's cause he's yearning to feel alive, fighting just happens to be the only vice that he's been conditioned to get that from, it's sorta like an addiction...Other Manga/Anime do the Love of Fighting Trope, but few make it as deep and complex as Kubo does here. Ron, in any society, the job of the King's guard is to protect the king. Even if the Kingdom gets burned to the Ground, their job is only to protect the king. Squad Zero is the Kings guard. Thats why they didnt show up.

[Tidbits Ep.8] - Many forget but the Shiba family are a noble/royal Shinigami lineage, clearly they play a part in transporting 0 squad which has to hold some weight. - People thought Kaien just happened to look similar to Ichigo, but in typical Kubo fashion it was him laying hints, Isshin, in general, has many physical features shared by the Shiba Clan, this also means that Ichigo is of Shinigami Nobility. (from extra material, we learn that Royals/Nobles have far more spiritual pressure than others, this adds to why Ichigo seems to be above the rest, he's a noble shinigami, apparently Quincy, and has hollow powers.) - It was removed from the anime, but in the manga, part of why Yhwach leaves is because the 0 squad was coming. - The Soul Kings' appearance lines up with Aizen calling him "That THING!" - Not many people payed mind to the attitude towards the 0 Squad, most of our Captains seem to have a feeling of distaste towards meeting them. The 0 Squad are expressed in a way that elludes to them not caring about anything except for protecting the soul king, which the logic is sound, but they seem to lack any form of compassion for the 1000's of slaughtered shinigami. - Tite Kubo (Creator of Bleach) recieved some death threats for the supposed killing of byakuya, some believe it played a part in the decision to keep him alive (However it's not a proven fact at all, and actually goes against what Kubo says in his interviews regarding how metacilious he is about killing characters.) - There is more information on Broken Bankai in the manga and they put it on the mid episode screen card, however it's never translated so people miss out. (For example Ikkaku's Bankai is practically useless right now cause it got destroyed in Bankai form, Renji's is also somewhat damaged) - In Kluboutside Q&A # 548, we learn that Senjumaru used to be the leader of an unofficial inventors group in Soul Society long before the Shinigami Research and Development Institute was founded. Mayuri Kurotsuchi was her subordinate at that time. - Sidenote: Unohana being completely unafraid to tell the 0 Squad what they can or can't do shows a level of separation between her and the others. Soi Fon also defied them however it's from a place of youthful ignorance and emotion. [Reposted]

If you guys go back and see, despite the many attacks on the Seireitei, none of them ever targeted squad 4. Squad 4 was always left out of it. Even Aizen avoided fighting Unohana. That wasnt coincidence.

Unohana kept continuously killing and bring Kenpachi back to life. Pretty sure in the manga she kills him over a 100 times and it lasts 3 days to finally break his mental block. Someone can correct me on that number

Kenpachi can't see or change the future. I think that was just bloodlust that was shown with Unohana stabbing him. I think it was similar to when Ichigo first fought Kenpachi and we seen Ichigo get "stabbed" from behind but he didn't really get stabbed, it was just Kenny's bloodlust. Ukitake and Shunsui were close to Yamamoto. Back in OG Bleach Yama said he sees them as his sons. They are senior captains (along with Unohana) so it made sense that Kyoraku took the reigns as new head captain.

Remember when Unohana confronted Aizen when she found out that he betrayed everyone, him and Gin eventually fled. Aizen ain't want no smoke with Unohana. 😂 that's just my theory though. It's been teased this whole time that she's a beast, captains/lieutenants in the soul society shown to be scared of her. Now we see she a savage, this episode gave me chills. Beautiful and poetic fight with Unohana and Kenpachi backstory and the parallels. Fun fact Unohana's Shikai and Bankai are the same name "Minazuki" we seen her Shikai in soul society arc. It was her and Isane riding that giant manta ray. Her braided hairstyle that she’s always wore at the front of her chest was to cover her scar. @Mods please relay some of the info on from the comments to Ron and Michelle especially the Yachiru Unohana thing with Kenny naming Yachiru after her. I just wanted to clarify that Unohana was actually winning and almost killing Zaraki many times, then healing him. Whenever he was losing consciousness, she would heal him, and they would continue fighting. It was also shown in the anime that everyone either respects or fears her. Yamamoto and Unohana dying feels like the end of an era.

The Unohana reveal has been hinted at/foreshadowed since VERY early on in the series. 1. Everyone, even Captains as powerful as Shunsui and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her (though this often played off for comedic relief). 2. Her other name, Retsu, means "violent" or fierce", hinting at her true nature. 3. In the SS arc, she is the first Captain to notice something is off about Aizen's death (even while under complete hypnosis). When she arrives in the Underground Meeting assembly area after Aizen waxes Hitsugaya, he acknowledges that he thought she would be showing up soon. 4. If you recall Kenpachi's backstory flashback from the SS arc, he tells Yachiru that he named her after the one person he admires and respects. The First Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru is that person. 5. In Las Noches, Rudobonne (the skull guy who was the captain of the Exequias) chooses to back off and avoid fighting her once he sees her. 6. Even from the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, which is second only to Aizen and Yamamoto who both have a total of 560/600. Her special ability was also listed as kenjutsu (swordsmanship), NOT healing.

Couple things to note (small things you might not have connected or missed): - The squad 0 lady who made the food (Kirio Hikifune) is who Urahara replaced as squad 12 captain back in the flashback where aizen turned the captains into Vizards. This is why she asked Hirako where Hiori was since she was her lieutenant when she was the squad 12 captain! During that flashback they mention that all captains who get "promoted" go "up" lol it was vague but now it's all connected for you! She was promoted for her "invention". - Regarding the Unohana Kenpachu reveal; there were many instances during the show where people talked about how scary she was lol even when she went to hueco mundo, that arrancar with the army ran from her cause he realized how powerful and scary her spiritual energy was. Small things and easy to miss but the clues are there! -Zaraki also named his pink haired lieutenant after Unohana since her actual name is Unohana Yachiru. The person he "respected the most". - Now you see why Squad 11 always bullied Squad 4 in the early episodes of Soul Society. Because there was so much history there between their captains. Great predictions on your end and I love when you pause and discuss but I would say, try not to overthink too much and miss the small details in whats said or in front of you! I know there is a LOT of info within a triple drop (hell there is lot of info in this comment lmao) but it will all make sense as you watch! Thank you always for the great content!!!

A few things I want to mention, that will hopefully reach you thru our comments: - Please try to remember the last episode of the Fullbring arc when Ichigo specifically wanted to bring back Ginjo's body to the World of the Living. On the side, the Fullbring folks are and always will be humans. In the cycle of Life in Bleach when humans die they go to ... where? It matters what life they had and in the case of Tsukishima - how he died. His last moments did not represent any extreme negative emotions worthy of him becoming a Hollow, so he passed on without pain or regret. He even thanked Sushigawara at the very end, in his last moment. - The "uncle" situation should be clear at this current point in Bleach, but without saying too much try to think about Kaien and what we know about him, even the seemingly meaningless mentions of his looks. He is the answer to all of your confusion. - The folks at the Royal Palace have no business with the Gotei 13 and vice versa. The Royal Guard's only job and focus is the Soul King and nothing else, no matter what ever happens down in Soul Society. Also, Hikifune (the food lady) is mentioned in the "Pendulum Arc", the one arc we got before everyone fights Aizen and his top 3 Espada.

Hopefully now its making sense, why in OG bleach, some of the captains and ichigo were kind of scared of unohana, and always smiled nervously around her. she is badass😂😂

If possible, a mod could let them know about something they missed in this episode due to the excitement of the fight—they thought Zaraki was avoiding death, but there’s a line in the middle of the fight where Unohana says she is bringing him back. Basically, she is almost killing him and then healing him, which is why he loses consciousness and comes back. It’s a small detail, but it would be good for them to know. It’s a bit sad that we can’t share this kind of information with them because some people think they’re experts by giving spoilers, when in reality it just shows they can’t discuss things using only the information available up to the episodes already watched.

About the pauses, I personally don't mind it at all. And you guys do this most of the time, but I'd just say after a pause and brainstorming just a 10 second rewind so you don't miss stuff. But you guys have been doing it really well in my opinion!

The reason why the Fullbringers returned is based on the basic rules of the Bleach universe. During the Fullbringer arc, they were living humans in the World of the Living. When a human dies in Bleach, their soul simply crosses over to the Soul Society. Because they are Fullbringers with high spiritual pressure, they kept their human forms, memories, and powers after death. Kukaku Shiba later found them wandering in the Rukongai (the outer districts of the Soul Society) and took them in.

Unohana has had several foreshadows throughout the series before this reveal. First time in Soul Society after aizen dipped, squad 11 members were in the squad 4 barracks recovering and they were talking shit about squad 4 and the squad 11 members were scared as hell when unohana showed up behind them. Second time was in hueco mundo with the arrancar guy not wanting to fight unohana at all. Third time was both kyouraku and ukitake showing fear or "respect" to a senior during the flashback arc with the vizards. This is also the first? time Squad Zero was mentioned in the series and if I remember correctly Kirio is the captain who got promoted (the purple haired captain in squad zero). Unohana VA did an amazing job changing her tone and especially the eerie voice when she goes bankai. This comment isn't about you guys missing out on it because they are very subtle and can't really connect them together. Especially when they are sometimes just done as a "comedic relief". It's just a nice thing to look back at and realize how far ahead this had been thought out.
