The Garp/Don Chinjao storyline is just meant to give more world-building and give Garp another relationship outside of Dragon, Luffy, Ace, and Roger. It makes to show how scary a Marine Garp was, how he impacted people outside of his main relationship while also giving Luffy a "personal" fight during Luffy's Lucy era. Oda does that sometime, he just add random relationship/fight/story that isn't too relevant in the current arc. It just to make the world feel bigger and a lot of stuff happen outside of Straw hat adventure

I feel like one piece could take a book from other anime and rearrange scenes and stuff. For example, the Luffy vs Don Chinjao epi could been moved into 1 or 2 episode straught. We can have all the mystery stuff right after. Instead we have don vs luffy spread out like 6 episodes, then we get big episode at the end. It gives a lot of the storyline less flow when done if we copy manga 1 for 1. A good example is JJK. In the manga, the maki episode was not all in 1 go, I think we had the Hakari/Yuuji/Megumi stuff and Maki mixed together giving less of a flow. But anime took the liberty to take everything about Maki episode and put into 1 episode. Have the Megumi/Hakari/Yuuji stuff in the episode afters. Prob my biggest issue with one piece is sometime it jump back and forth with less flow. These event dont need to be happening simultaneously. The toy stuff, little people, Nami, and Law stuff is interwined so it makes sense to jump back and forth on that stuff. But Lucy stuff doesn't need to follow up every episode. Still like Dressrosa story, but the pacing/how its directed annoy me to no ends. but the manga version of Dressrosa is a fun read

I’m with Michelle, the fights drag on too long. It’s the worst type of filler, I’d much rather have a fun world building than a fight that spans a dozen episodes.

so many narratives going on all at once the gum gum whiplash is real bahaha they’re originally there to 1) trade with Doflamingo and 2) find samurai’s friend which Sanji is helping with. however 1) fails and now 3) Law is fighting above Green Bit while 4) Robin and Usopp encounter the Tontatta beneath Green Bit and join their cause. then there’s 5) Luffy in the colosseum for Ace’s fruit, 6) Zoro chasing his sword leads to looking for the ship then leads to 4). speaking of the ship 7) Brook, Chopper, Nami are in combat there, 8) Franky encounters a Toy Soldier, learns some dark truths about the island and connects with Zoro which is 4) as well that introduces 8) Tontatta history from 900 years ago. This is just the general idea too not going to the details of each narrative 😂

i love drssrosa arc but not teh anime version that pacing was so bad i wish me 4 episod per upload to cover that pacing because 4 episodse are like 2-3 epidsodes befor dressrosa

The period 900 years ago (before the Void Century) and 800 years ago (right after it ended) has been mentioned a few times in One Piece. For example, in Robin’s backstory, people from her island tried to figure out what happened back then, but the World Government wiped them out. During the Skypiea arc, Robin finds a Poneglyph with info about the Void Century (900–800 years ago) and the Ancient Kingdom that existed back then though it seems like it got destroyed by some enemies???? Then in Sabaody, we learned that after the Void Century ended 800 years ago, the current World Government and the Celestial Dragons started ruling this world. Also, the Poneglyph in Fish-Man Island says someone named Joy Boy’s apology to the previous Mermaid Princess for not being able to fulfill a promise during the Void Century. And now in Dressrosa, it comes up again with the history between the Donquixote family and the Tontatta Kingdom (those little guys)

Even just at the Colosseum, there’s the Flare Flare fruit, Cavendish wanting to kill Luffy, Barto wanting to stop Barto for some reason, Chinjao’s grudge, Rebecca’s whole deal, the navy waiting outside, and even a Blackbeard commander. And that’s just one main part out of like 5.
