The reason some people think the guy who hack all sick who has the Pegasus fruit carries half apples half bombs to collect devil fruits if they’re nearby. If someone considers this a spoiler, let me know, but I don’t think it is because it’s not confirmed. Basically a devil fruit if someone passes away with one, it will jump to the nearest “fruit” nearby.

I have two new job interviews this week, but if he asked me to work unless it is real training, there’s no way I’m coming into work. There’s some guy on sushi squad. That’s also in HVAC. I wanted to know his opinion on this as I’m a greenhorn. I need the experience but the guy he retired yesterday told me they’re not gonna really spend too much money into trainees anymore and if I wanna be attacked, I need to look somewhere else and already like I said have two other job interviews this week. Also sucks because I could’ve had $2400 saved up, but I spent that all on tools meant for this HVAC job…. I could sell them on eBay, but I want to have a career and become a tech.

When a devil fruit user dies the DF reappears somewhere (probably nearby, converting a normal fruit to a DF). Smiley had a DF ability. Which is why it probably was alive in the first place (because zoan DF (Axolotl)). Probably the same principle like Spandams Sword who got Elephant DF powers.
