Awbari Burns

Black Powder Red Earth® Awbari is now complete. With almost nine years of sweat and blood behind it, Awbari spans over 700 pages in the main storyline and another 500 pages of supporting narrative, world building, and game design spread across Hypernotes Ember, Hypernotes Scorch, and the Black Powder Red Earth 28mm game.

Originally written to accommodate Netflix Japan’s anime series format, we penned two complete drafts of Awbari before the project was shuttered due to a number of events; the most tragic being the unexpected passing of the series lead artist, Akihiko Takadera.

With so many years invested in the screenplay, video game, and tabletop wargame, the decision to proceed with a graphic novel realization of the script was as much a function of necessity as it was inspiration.

A special credit is due to both Mike Durao (Designer) and Paul Tibrius (SME) who worked tirelessly with me to develop the Awbari setting and story. Each provided unique insights, critiques, and feedback that elevated the finished work above anything we had previously completed.

Now, with over 15 years of continuous effort on Black Powder Red Earth, our shop is launching a new military thriller _NearPresent. Authentic, detailed, and unflinching, with a signature texture that is distinct to Design Team Ember, _NearPresent is the story of a liminal proxy war set on a twenty year horizon.

Thank you for making all of this possible. We could not have come this far without your patient and enduring support.
