Looking at all these resources, a natural question arises: trade rivalry—how much does it really exist? Could it escalate into some kind of military conflict, piracy, raids, sabotage, or at least strong economic pressure (especially from the Empire)? This is a really interesting aspect—merchant guilds, trade leagues—how is trade regulated, and by whom? Some historical examples come to mind: the Anglo-French trade war (1294–1296), the Hanseatic War with Denmark (1361–1370), the Venice-Genoa conflict (1256–1381). And in general, cold or hot wars over markets, trade privileges, and control over commerce. P.S. The Empire or Lymark (or someone else) could definitely get their hands on… opium. The narrative potential of this resource is enormous.

Trade Rivalry: That's going to be one of the key reasons why house conflicts will arise (and be the catalyst for some story events ingame as youll see after this exploration arc). It will absolutely escalate to the examples you've given, and has already. Adelina and Uriel are making steps with the Royal Court to push pressure into the bad actors into behaving. The empire is also 100% using their economic power against Argent, and we're already seeing the affects of it in the previous draft with the Battle of Silverhill. Merchant Guilds are already a thing as well. Adelina has already made steps to centralize them and put them under the Crown's influence as well with her reforms. Trade is mostly regulated by said Merchant Guilds and very recently the banks. There aren't banking families yet in the sense we know them as a child, but as we grow older into our teens, the beginnings of several will already pop up all over the continent, like the irl equivalents of the Bardi, de Medici, Peruzzi, Gondi, and Fugger families who instead of converting to landed nobility, became banking families. PS: I agree!

It was SO hard choosing whether my MC went with Uriel or Adelina 😩. With Uriel I felt my MC made a HUGE choice that will show effects later down the line (referring to treating their ports and seas as private land) which is so BADASS for a 5 yr old but then we miss out on the initial meet and greet with Amina, her mom and insight into how the empire treats the kingdom. I had a similar conundrum in the previous version of KAE where I couldn’t choose between throwing a party and showing that house (I forgot their name 🤦🏽‍♀️) that MC was just another little Remiel and having them pledge to MC early on VS. building a BADASS crane that would have MCs reputation and intellect known throughout ALL of Nareth.
