Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

All of the CGI you see in the original trilogy was added years after the original releases. The one really unfortunate choice was to include the scene with Jabba the Hutt, which was filmed with a human stand-in but not included in the movie's first release because there wasn't a good enough way at the time to produce a special-effects Jabba. The problem is not only that the CGI Jabba is grossly inferior to the puppet Jabba we will see in later movies, as well as to all the CGI characters that would later be created for the prequel trilogy, but also that seeing him here ruins the wonderful surprise moviegoers originally had when Jabba's appearance was finally revealed in a later movie - and all this for the sake of a scene that actually adds nothing of the slightest value to the story. On a separate subject, the opening crawl of the written narration at the movie's beginning, where the top paragraphs recede into the background as the bottom ones appear: this, like much else in the Star Wars movies, is inspired by the old Flash Gordon movie serials. The line at the very top of the crawl, "Episode IV: A New Hope," was added in later releases: originally the movie was just "Star Wars" with no episode title, because nobody knew if the movie would be successful enough to justify further episodes. But of course the movie was always supposed to feel like an episode in a series that was already under way; Lucas is doing the same thing that the poet Horace described Homer and Virgil as doing, beginning their epics "in medias res," in the middle of things, instead of from the very beginning of the story.
