I think the thing i love about this movie is this early quote from Gyatso "Aang, as an airbender its important that you know when to show restraint. Even if you have the power to win. You are the Avatar; a lot of people are going to rely on you." It really ties into how Aang chose to hold back and break the staff as the world relied more on the power being gone than having more airbenders. 10/10 movie and we need more of them

The first time I watched this movie and saw the Bison, deadass brought a tear to my eye. This movie was so good and it’s crazy that it pretty didnt get any marketing cause the only way I even heard about it was on release from other fans

As someone who watched every episode the day it came out almost 20 years ago, then saw Korra, it's awesome to get your take when you have no idea what happens with the next avatar Korra, and how you will interpret it after seeing this movie before Korra. So excited

50:22 is so funny because Zuko was coming the Fire Lord being served to now fixing the ship by himself without fire nation workers to do it for him.

its beautifully animated and drawn although the faces look hyper generic and the characters have been really stripped of their ethnical features especially the noses. If you like this animation you should really see ARCANE... they essentially borrowed that style and then turned the characters back to 2d like in the original series. ARCANE still looks better tho and because it uses more 3d, the animation is just more pleasant because as nice as this looked, there was several moments with wayyyy too much visual noise and movement happening so you didnt really know where to look. this was again, beautiful to see but tbh the writing in this movie is pretty doodoo. atla was thought provoking, this is the opposite. nothing in this movie wants to be questioned and most of that is owed to the fact that its a sequel movie to atla but ended up really being a prequel movie to tlok.... theres no reason coming from the atla finale to think team avatar would prioritize republic city which just comes out of nowhere and in general i think its a shame they try to force this movie to accomodate a transition to tlok when both shows already have been finished for a decade or two depending on which one.... i dont blame you for not seeing all of these issues and im not trying to talk you out of enjoying this movie but you also have to understand that you only saw ATLA once and nobody picks up everything the first time watching, even if its a nickelodeon show. Theres a huge part of this fandom like me who has watched this show up and down for almost two decades now so im sure you can understand the difference in perspectives. I mean vince mentioned how the avatar state was nerfed but theres so much more... aang can run as fast as the wind, why would he painstakingly climb the mountain ? when he could just bend himself inside. the powerscaling is all over the place. they literally just drop a line saying tagah has so much chi and then thats that when literally in one scene we see katara SPLIT THE FUCKING OCEAN TO THE BOTTOM only for her and everyone else to get washed by tagah in a 4v1? sorry but it makes no sense... and then at the end when tagah has the staff giving him unlimted power, so hes obviously even stronger then, aang just wins by "locking in" and he snatches the staff out his hand no avatar state????? hello? yeah get used to writing like that if you check out TLOK i absolutely can't fathom you just having seen the original show and then coming onto this and saying they executed the story to a t or showed the characters grown up. i mean physically yes but character wise ? hell no. they're super boiled down and literally everyone is stripped of potential actual growth. like for example why not show sokka giving speeches? that would have been THE opportunity to show maturing but NO! they're like these characters must stay the exact same as their most superifical aspects... and then they regress aang like bruh he already confronted the guilt of abandoning his people SEVERAL times in the original series. that is by definition, what regressing a character looks like. its the opposite of development. i also highly disagree that this is more mature than the original show. its not. as for this being a "new story" this movie literally rides home the exact same plot of the original show. aang would not let his peoples values die because choosing to do so would literally undermine his peoples culture surviving and you even mention that yourselves lol. do we really need this plot and sonam to tell us aang is the perfect air nomad? HELL NO. please PLEASE THINK.... how the FUCK would bringing back people with airbending restore the airnomads? having an ability and knowing about a culture and its values that formed over millenia is NOT THE SAME... the entire notion that aang would even fall for the staff "bringing his people back" is so stupid because again, it would not bring his people back. it would merely give new idiots like the denied we saw airbending powers. thats all. and air nomads are more than just having airbending powers. sonam also sucks ass she created her own issue, then could not deal with it and said "yeah someone else gotta take care of this i'm out" like the compliment from her to aang would mean anything... as if shes some sacred above it all airbender like bruh out of all the air nomad characters we have seen in this universe she is easily one of the worst ones.... the denied also make no sense like they're anti bending and one of them was LITERALLY A YUYAN ARCHER... meaning she fougth for firelord ozai/ the firenation (1x13 the blue spirit)... and then she has the nerve to attack the people who ended the conflict blaming THEM for being the cause of the 100 year war? bruh.... and not only that but they also literally want bending for themselves despite bending being what theyre fundamentally against? their conviction made ZERO sense. in general this movie just whips out whatever it needs out of thin air so the plot can happen and after that it will dissolve everything into thin air... literally the mountain, the staff, the entire plot. and the scene with the FLYING bisons... like OH THERE THEY ARE.... whoever wrote that needs to be shot lol that was so retarded like bruh they're flying ginormeous animals who, like sokka said, have GIANT ARROWS on their heads... like bruh them going like "we never know what we will find" and then two steps later theres a valley... again forcefully trying to explain things that didnt need explanations because tlok, a 10 year old show set after ATLA already presented us with new air bison so we know there must have been otheres and the answers are typical of bryke. its an answer for answer sake so now you have an explanation. doesnt matter if that explanation is compelling or fits to the lore, it just needs to remove that question. and that is factually bad writing.

Based on how much you liked this show, I definitely think you would get a lot out of “The Legend of Korra” lots of nostalgia, lore and new!

i’m only 6 minutes in but i just relized you guys are apart of a small group who are watching this movie before ever seeing Kora so what a fresh perspective your going to have since in a way you’ll be seeing things in reverse of how we all watched it even though your watching chronologically correct we all watched these like the star wars movies how the first three episodes are prequels and just to note it not nit picking i love that your watching it like this😁

Zuko was indeed voiced by Steven Yuen, who played Glen in TWD. Tagah was Dave Bautista, aka Drax. Toph was Dionne Quan, who voiced Kimmy Finster in Rugrats and Trixy Tang in Fairly Odd Parents. Avatar Xian was actually Ke Huy Quan from Loki season two. Ken Jeong briefly voiced the Cabbage Merchant. Ronny Chang was the fire nation messenger who read the report from Aang at the beginning. Francois Chau, who you are about to meet in LOST, voiced Monk Gyatso.

I think the reason why Anng Avatar state felt weak because he is his fighting Tagah who is way more stronger than fire lord Ozai specially with sonam's staff and this Movie Anng is not really his prime reach his physical bending prime when is more in his 30s to 40s

this is basically book 4 Air this really great Movie The animation and fighting was crazy there are comic books that take place when Anng is a teennager and goes In depth on Zuko finding is mom situation they were supposed to make a zuko movie I idk what happen or if they still working on it

I’m so glad you guys checked out the movie. Also to answer the question, aang cannot learn blood bending or metal bending because it doesn’t fit his personality at all. The only sub skills that he was able to learn was seismic sense, lightning redirection, and energy bending.

Would be curious for yall to watch Korra. It has its ups and downs, but if you love this universe that's been created, I think its a must watch for you guys. Theres apparently another show coming out soon for the next avatar after Korra too
