EmuDeck Windows improvements + macOS support ( finally! )

Hi! We have some new features for you but since they are really really new we are releasing them in the early unstable branch just in case.

EmuDeck Windows

  • Feature parity with Linux, we've added the last two missing features: Migrate installation and AutoMap

  • Steam is no longer needed, in the past we needed Steam Input enabled for some emulators, AutoMap solves that need so you won't need to have Steam opened in the background anymore.

  • PowerShell popups are gone, we are using now an official Windows process to launch the scripts hidden so you won't see them anymore. I don't know if this will trigger some antivirus detection so please tell me if you have false positives because of this.

  • GameMode is improved because of that, now Steam launches on boot without ever showing powershell commands.

  • The Launch pop up is now gone, we've found a workaround to prevent Steam stealing the window focus so the infamous popup you saw when launching a game is now gone.

  • This Windows update is a big one so some bugs here and there are expected, remember to report them in the proper Discord support channel so we can take a look at them one by one.

You can switch to the unstable branch from within the EmuDeck app in the top right dropdown selector.

EmuDeck macOS ( Apple sillicon only )

A year ago we started porting the EmuDeck code to Python so we could finally have the same backend for all platforms so we delayed the macOS port till this.

For the past year we've been doing a mix of Bash / PowerShell and Python, creating a short of hybrid to be able to transition in a clean and safe way from one backend to another without the user even knowing about it.

The macOS release is running completely on the new Python backend, in the coming weeks / months we'll begin transitioning small parts of Windows and Linux backends until every EmuDeck build runs on Python.

Thanks to all the hard work on the python side the macOS port has all the functionalities of EmuDeck from day one: Bios checker, RetroAchievements, CloudSync, AutoMap, etc.

Some macOS features:

  • Supported emulators: ARMSX2, Cemu, Dolphin, DuckStation, Azahar, PPSSPP, RetroArch, RPCS3, Ryujinx, Vita3K, Xemu and Xenia.

  • Supported frontends: Steam and ESDE

  • Faster CloudSync while using ESDE, now CloudSync happens when launching a game instead of when launching ESDE, so only that system will be synced instead of your whole installation.

  • No need for Steam, most Mac users don't really have Steam installed so we had to work around that and for that we created Library

Library

What's Library? Library lets you browse your games and launch them directly from the EmuDeck app.

  • Uses the same backend we had already developed for the RetroLibrary Decky plugin (that's coming back soon btw!)

  • The idea is that if you are in your desktop or laptop you are probably going to be using your mouse to interact with it, not with a controller ( controllers are still needed for the emulators though )

Library will also be available for Linux and Windows but we need to start the Python migration first

Any chance we can get some new and updated emulators integrated like xenia-edge?

I use Steam—don’t get me wrong, I also use Game Pass—but I absolutely love that you’re moving controls out of Steam. It used to cause issues on portable devices since I had to run Steam to play emulators, which limited the content I could access. Will this update include gyro controls as well? I’m switching over on my devices tonight. Thanks! Also, since the SW2 is now opened up and emulated, is there any support planned for it?
