Yo, is this series going to continue? It's been almost a month now. Been waiting for this.
I would be sad to see the anime reactions go away if you are still interested in making them. I don't know the numbers behind patreon viewership, but my first guess would be that the reason the anime reaction viewership is lower on youtube is because of the split viewer base between patreon and youtube. The music reaction viewer base isn't as split since the music reactions are primarily youtube based, whereas the anime reactions to me feel more patreon based.
I would be sad if you stopped doing these reactions in general. Don't take it to heart that non are here to watch these. They're always be someone always sticking around here longer then you think. Maybe, they don't comment or like, but watch the vids. I do wish you a happy month
Wait? Is it just gonna be March Season 1? Or the rest if the other season of MCILAL?
Oh crap, i need to watch your older anime.
About your end rant: First of all, do what YOU want to do imho. That should be the priority as most people watch things for you. Second, as a lot of people here already said, but i also watch you mostly for the anime content and thats almost exclusively here on patreon for quite a few years i have to add. And with some previous streams i caught where you talked about your plans, in my opinion, with how much you say you are the most subscribed patreon channel in the UK, you really neglect its audience. At least from what you mention. Whenever you talk about what to do next, its always the yt channels, its engagement, its yt views and so on. And maybe im just not understanding it, but with you having so many patreon followers, maybe you could look at some stats there. Cause with no anime, i'd also just cancel my membership here and that for sure wouldn't move me to your YT channel. But if we are the minority and its what you want or have to chase to succeed, you should do it, it'd just be disappointing. Honest feels here, i watch like 2 or 3 reaction channels regularly, so it would be a shame to have someone genuine go. Though all in all, just remember my first point, and you do you.
I love your anime reactions; I started watching you because of them. I hope you find a way to keep them going. I also tend to watch them more on Patreon than on YouTube. Thank you for everything, and also for bringing this series to us; it's my favorite. Greetings from Mexico.
Listening about the declining of anime viewers made me sad. Of course the channel and the numbers come first so I fully understand, but it somehow feels sad since I've always thought your series reactions have been among the best.
So the english title for this show is kind of wrong. We know that the town Rei lives in is called Sangatsu town. Funny enough Sangatsu means also march in japanese, that's where the title got confused a bit. So the japanese title , Sangatsu no Lion would be better translated as " Lion of Sangatsu"
I think aside from the failing algorithm you are also a bit burnt out on anime content. You've been reacting to like 10 different series weekly so maybe tone it down a little. Free some time and try new formats etc. And i know theres still shitload of anime that people want you to react to but honestly not everything performs good as reaction. Some anime are great but works better if you just watch them in your free time. Maybe for those that perform bad you could upload the full reaction in patreon while giving youtube a more algorithm friendly format (like maybe 5-10 min commentary with key moments only shown). I know this will be frowned upon since it will essentially lock reactions behind paywall but if they are hurting your channel progress and you still want to do them, i think thats the way
The only reason I wanted you to react to this for so long, was for this scene (and a couple more, but well, this one mainly). Shaft anime (Shaft the studio) is so weird. They are always super artsy, or they try to be, and they are also always hit or miss in potentital. Thats wether they never continue adaptations, or simply because they make a show that is unpopular or hard to understand, and they drop it for somethin else (aka most of Nisio Isin adaptations done by Shaft, like The Blue Savant OVA or Pretty Boys Detective Club which was amazing even though the name makes it look like it is directed to "other" kind of public). As for reaction content, the fluctuating viewership is kind of part of it. You will have seasons where you will have a lot of viewership over random things, and seasons where things wont go well. Branching out unto other things can also feel like not the right choice simply by fear of missing your audience. Matter is, most of the time the audience of a react channel is: 1. There for the reacted content. And 2. There because they like the person talking over other reactors who react the same content (the main attractive point is people who have something to add other than "looks cool", but you know this already). For last, sometimes people (like me) drop off reaction channels for a while simply because they are not interested on watching that kind of reaction. Sometimes is good to keep some content to react on a later date when the algorithm on platforms starts giving it priority, rather that allowing viewers to decide. Though I hate that way of seeing it, truth is that the majority choice/mob mentality not always leads to the best favorable outcome. Just my piece of mind though, I'm more clueless on content creation that you are. I'm just an avid viewer from reaction channels since I was a teenager.
As someone who’s been here for years, it would really suck to see it go. I’ve never cared much for things outside of your anime and Japanese music reactions cause that’s just what interests me. But I also ever since getting on Patreon maybe a year or two ago have barely touched your actual YouTube channel, except for when I know something’s supposed to release but I can’t find it here. I feel like as long as you keep the connection with what people want then you should do that. That’s always been what sets your videos apart, and it’s what led to where we are now
I understand fully where you are coming from but me being selfish don't want you to stop watching niche anime that deserve a lot more love. Maybe you can turn them into low effort patreon reaction where you drop them whenever you feel like it and focus mainly on the things that will help you grow your channel. I'd still come back to watch as long as you keep uploading them :)
Hi Luke, I’m so sorry to hear that your anime reactions haven’t been going well. Personally, while I don’t agree with all of your opinions on certain scenes or characters, I always appreciate your reactions as they are genuine and spoken from heart and will be very sad if they are gone. Honestly, I think it’s less about “viewership” or “not enough interest” and more about Youtube algorithm that is to blame for your situation. I subscribe for both your main channel and GOT Extras but for some reasons, none of your second channel’s video ever got recommended to me. If it wasn’t for patreon, I would have thought you never upload anything there. So instead of giving up on your anime reactions, here is a quick solution: Raise the price of your patreon. You don’t have to put up a competitive price, just whatever floats the boat is enough. I know you want to make it accessible to everyone, but if it puts a strain on your finance, then we have no choice but to change. At least it’s still better than giving up. I bet a lot people don’t look for your YT videos because they already watch on Patreon anyway, it’s honestly too cheap. That’s how many content creators survive nowadays. Using Youtube as the marketing platform and mainly making money through Patreon. If you think about it, this is a win-win situation for everyone. You don’t have to give up your YT reactions. Paid users who have money can watch Patreon and fund the channel while free users who can’t pay for Patreon have to go look for YT videos and contribute to YT views. More YT views can help raise your YT algorithm and increase reach. Please please consider doing this 🙏. Don’t give up yet!
glad you're starting to enjoy the show more. bummed to hear the ending part. im only here for a small handful of anime you watch, and i really enjoy watching your reacts (obviously, or i wouldn't be a patreon member). I get you gotta do what's best for you and what you think is best for your channels, but to be completely upfront I would 100% cancel my membership after you wind down the anime i do watch on your channel. the only non-anime things i've watched on either are the hamilton react, a few of the tupacs, and the doc about nishida (the japanese vb player)
Same, would cancel, too. Im only here for the Anime reactions
If you do end up deciding to stop reactions to March Comes in Like a Lion, I strongly encourage you to at least finish it on your own. It's an incredible show, and you've only seen a little bit of what it has to offer.
I'd be so sad if you stop watching anime or underrated anime like march, april or monster. Youre the only one that reacts to different anime like those ones, and the only patreon i can afford too. Its fine if you take your time with the schedules or watch less animes at the same time, but please dont stop watching these kind of underrated anime that no one else reacts to. Its so refreshing to have a content creator reacting to underrated masterpieces and not just the big or recent ones that everyone watches.
This anime…. 😭 Rei’s screaming scene really tugs at the heartstrings. I really appreciate you reacting to this series, Luke! On Patreon for G.O.T. Games, I would pay $10-15 per month for exclusive access to the less mainstream series like this one. If you were to become interested in a less demanded series like this one in the future, maybe you offer to react to the series for your supporters who would pay more to see you react to it? Like create a separate tier for less demanded series?
For me personally, I'm only here for the anime reactions. If they went away I would drop the patreon. I'm here specifically for March and My Hero. I would also be watching Haikyuu but I can't stand the unedited stream and don't like the blurring on YouTube. Ranking matches reminder: 10 of the matches Rei plays each year are ranking matches. The top two players in his rank are promoted at the end of the year and the bottom are considered for demotion. If you remember Rei lost a few of his matches earlier in the year so he was fighting to not be last.
This episode hit so hard when I first watched it, and it still hits hard now. My guess is your anime racts on YT dont so good, because most of your community watches anime here on Patreon. Having to blur the anime on YT really makes it unwatchable. I think I've watched a single one of your YT anime videos ages ago when you started your anime journey, and immediately joined Patreon because of how reasonably priced it is. I dunno how much you actually make here on Patreon, but if Patreon is doing well for you, I'd suggest to do episode 1 only on YT for each series, then say the rest will be on Patreon. Then focus YT on your other reacts that bring in more views. You may find people from music reacts or other things that also happen to like anime, then they see how much you've done and decide to get Patreon. I personally don't care about any other reactions you do tbh, I am pretty picky in my tastes so virtually everything else you've done I havent been interested in, but I've watched most of the anime you've done (excluding current weekly series cus thats not my thing). If you stopped doing anime reacts here on Patreon, I'd understand, but would be disappointed. Your reactions to older anime classics have been a big part of my life and weekly schedule. I pine every day for the next episode of the shows I love. Right now I'm always looking forward to Sat/Mon/Wed cus they have 2 of my favorite shows, Haikyuu and MHA. Even if you just have to dial it down to 1 or 2 shows at a time, I wish you'd keep reacting, but will understand and respect any business decision you have to make. I love that you genuinely like most of the shows you've seen, and its been very refreshing and nostalgic to experience them with you.
Back when I first watched this show, this was the episode that really cemented that I loved this anime and that it was going to be in a special place in my heart. To your talk at the end - I can say that I'm probably one of the minority that only watches you for your anime content. I don't watch all of them, but a fair amount of them. If you do go to removing anime from the youtube channels, I would definitely suggest thinking about making it a patreon only thing but still advertising it on youtube that you have X or Y series you are watching (DrumRollTony as an example)
Regarding this episode: This is one of my favorite eps in the series because while the match against Matsunaga helped him get back on-track from a winning standpoint, his match against Yasui showed that he cares about winning way more than he originally thought and he no longer needs to think about his opponents because only they can control what they do on-and-off the shogi board. Regarding your comments at the end: I honestly think it’s a mixed bag of issues. For one, the YouTube algorithm is absolutely shitting on anime-related content right now, so I don’t think it’s so much people not caring about your anime reactions anymore and more due to the algorithm not pushing your anime content as it has in the past. I’ve honestly noticed more of your other videos showing up in my recommended more so than anime content (although I tend to watch your anime stuff on Patreon because I prefer to see it unblurred and gives me the chance to support your content). The other part of it is anime generally has two types of audiences (and just an FYI, don’t take the context to be insulting). There’s the casual anime fan that likes shonen-style anime and the niche anime fan that like more anime that goes off the beaten path, like March Comes in Like a Lion and Your Lie in April. I’m honestly the latter. I’ll be frank, I frigging hate shows like Naruto and Haikyuu and love anime like March. However, shows like Naruto and Haikyuu are vastly more popular because they generally attract a wider audience, so generally speaking, more people are going to watch them. Personally, I don’t want you to give up anime reactions unless it’s something that you want to do. If you’re sick of doing anime reactions then that’s something I can’t fault you for, but if you still love doing them and you’re giving it up because the “viewership isn’t there,” that’s not something that sits well with me. I’ve heard from multiple content creators that the general best practice is to create the content that you want to create, regardless if it gets you 1,000 views or 100,000 views. At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy. When it comes to me as someone who’s watched your content for years, I’ll be blunt, I’d be heartbroken if you stopped reacting to non-mainstream anime. For one, not many other CC’s react to them, so it’s extremely refreshing to see someone step outside of the norm to react to them, but secondly, these anime deserve way more support than what the mainstream shonen anime need. Anime like Naruto and Haikyuu aren’t going anywhere, but fewer and fewer shows like March and April are being made because they aren’t as profitable, but it’s really sad because they are artistic masterpieces.
This is so much better written than what I said, but this is exactly the sentiment that I should have aimed for too. The last paragraph is my exact feelings too
I wouldn't mind if you had a couple anime reactions on the patreon, don't mind what you do on youtube.
This may be a bias but I still feel like your core community is your anime community even if the views aren't there compared to other content.
This is what I call a showcase episode. It's something that no matter how many times I watch it it's just as powerful as the first time I saw it. I know series like this aren't as popular as the big shounen anime, but I really appreciate that you watch them because otherwise you would miss out on some of the best and most unique anime out there.
>Rei has a crisis of faith >Luke has a crisis of faith I'm actually super happy you're watching March--it's a fantastic, truly mature series that has a lot of emotional weight and power. And I get that a lot of anime fans just don't vibe with it because either it's not hype enough or it's too much to take in--I remember people being pissed that it outdid Dragon Ball Super (a literal animated fountain of youth) way back at the first Anime Awards. But I'm here with you 'til the end, and I hope you continue exploring and enjoying titles outside the popular wheelhouse, so keep 'em coming
This was such a powerful episode. The last scene... chills
