We all know what politician fits right into your description, Luke 😆

It's not said directly, but for sure Nowak knew the leader was his daughter. There is a shot in a previous episode where you can see him holding her hand as a kid the exact same way he holds her hand after the explosion. It says everything in my opinion. Also want to say the way they animated the moment Draka closes her eyes is the exact opposite of the opening of episode 1. And I believe it's that way for a reason, the same reason the story is divided in chapters. It's just what I want to believe at least. Thanks for the reactions, Luke!

i feel inclined to warn (no spoil, just warning), next episodes will have something very confusing, its very glaring so you will definitely know what i'm talking about, i strongly recommend you to acknowledge it but not focus too much on it so you can enjoy the rest. for now i'm just leaving this line from episode 4: "Truth can be born from the ashes of the dead"

What an end to Nowak, damn. In a way, even though he was the villain, its almost like he was the MC all along.

Dragmaister · January 11, 2026

Nowak was without a doubt a villain here, but as Rafal said, every person has opposing attributes warring within them, and so under different circumstances Nowak didn't *have to* be one. He wasn't an inherently evil person, it's just the era and circumstances that led him down this path. Of course his own choices matter also (which is why he *is* a villain), but he definitely had the capacity to make different choices as well and could've easily (relatively speaking) found himself on the other side of the conflict as well. Or at least that's how I choose to view it.

Luke! I'm loving the reactions! Thank you so much! For the astrolobe, Rafal (the 12 year old boy in episodes 1-3 who died) owned an astrolobe. Also, regarding the last 2 episodes, you're going to be very confused regarding something that once you'll see, you'll know what I'm talking about. That thing that I'm referring to, isn't gonna be explained so you'll have to use your judgement on it. I personally think that the thing i'm referring to, is something that just resembles the other thing, and isn't actually the real thing, since that's the only thing that makes sense to me. Well, you'll know what I mean when you watch the last two episodes. Just don't over-exert yourself when you come across it, it'll rack your brain. But I'm 99% sure it's supposed to be symbolic, so please keep that in mind when you see it. Love the reactions, keep going at it!

Oh Albert? He was given that in episode 7! That Albert! /s

No but seriously, I think the character you're thinking of is the old man with a golden astrolabe. Idfk which episode we saw his backstory tho. Otherwise.... uh... maybe you're thinking of Ozcy's friend who had an astrolabr but gave Ozcy the book?

Every time I see rafal my heart waver from too much happiness. I never seen a "Better" main character of a 24 episode series. 700+ anime and this dude seems the perfect MC. At just age of 12 he makes more sense than anyone I have ever seen or spoken with. 10/10 episode 23.

Nowak is the classic example of a Twitch streamer being one guyed by some "expert" in chat.

Stubbornness of Nowak in scene in church is pretty much logical and, in my opinion, the only reaction that he could’ve had. Since we don’t know how exactly first bishop managed to convince him that heliocentrism is a blasphemy, we will just have to accept it. But here is IMO the main 2 reasons, why Nowak couldn’t have accepted Antonio’s words: 1. After Jolenta’s faked death he was blaming himself for not doing enough to get rid of this “disease” called heliocentrism, which “infected” his daughter and led to her death. He spent 25 years blaming himself for it, for losing what was the most important thing in his life. And what Antonio basically says is that Jolenta died because of what Nowak was doing. His actions led to her death and not his “not doing enough”. Hadn’t he tortured and executed Rafel, his daughter would’ve never been executed for heliocentrism. Nowak didn’t let Jolenta die, he himself killed her. And obviously it is something that he in that moment couldn’t accept. IMO it was impossible. 2. What also adds heavily to the first point is execution of Rafel, Oczy and Badeni. We saw how Nowak immediately recalled their names. Nowak lived with an idea that you should quietly do what God would approve and you would have place in heaven. And that’s also what he was telling Jolenta since she is a woman. But he also respected people who had courage, will and their own convictions (basically him saying “You are a grown woman now” to Jolenta kind of confirms it to me). And exactly these kinds of people Badeni, Oczy and Rafel were. However, their views were quite opposite to Nowak’s: Rafel just “thrown away” his easy and quiet life in university for some heliocentrism, Oczy got into this whole story while trying to find some freedom (as he said it after Nowak captured him) and Badeni could’ve had amazing life in church, yet his eagerness for knowledge also killed him. I am pretty sure that deep inside he kind of respected them and questioned their executions. They and Nowak partly shared the same qualities, but they were trying to achieve different goals in life. And Antonio just confirms Nowak’s doubts by meaning that Nowak was being tricked all along and got of rid of guys, which he remembered for whole his life, and their deaths were pointless (for Nowak, for humanity they were even detrimental). This just added a lot to my point 1 and that’s what led Nowak to do all this. Hope you managed to read through all of this and that makes sense :D

Nowak feared heliocentrism, never questioning it, never doubting it, until he realised - Jolenta was the sun all along—while her predecessors revolved, advanced, and moved history forward, and he stayed frozen inside his own little ORBit. The cure was simple: stop asking who must be obeyed, and start asking what continues to move even when you try to stop it.

Brilliant episodes. Like you said, by this point you know it's coming but it hits hard either way. Nowak was the villain but he was also the only character that actually stuck throughout the whole series. It feels like he's been on this journey with you in a way. I think his send-off is perfect. You will probably be confused by the next 2 episodes but literally everybody is. You're meant to mull on it, I think.

What an episode...the story of Nowak sums up Humanity's darkest part in history and continues to this day and it will keep repeating each time as long as someone clings into a belief firmly making it their blind faith. The author depicted this dark part of humanity pretty darn well. It's beyond words how good the dialogue has been in this show. Nowak dying at the end with a cross symbolising that God blessed him even after all his sins and not to mention more than an inquisitor, he was a great father who loved his daughter till the end. Draka finally accepting the sunrise and facing it head on as a way of God blessing her till the end which Schmidt wanted to show her as a way of gratitude. Orbsolute cinema!

In my opinions the story would have had a satisfying ending with the sunrise. I am not a fan of the next few episodes but loved everything before. p.S: Like the new double episode saturday.

Deepraj · January 10, 2026

I think the next 2 episodes is what completes the story in a way that you might not have realised. I also had this feeling but when I realised what the author wanted to portray in the last 2 eps, it suddenly summed up everything for me. "Truth can be born from the ashes of the dead", thats what the heretic said in the end of ep 4. When Oczy asked Badeni right before they gets killed, what are the chances of Badeni's plan to succeed, Badeni replies "infinitesimally low". Similarly, we see that in the next 2 eps about a moment where that spark of curiosity gives rise to the idea again. This is when I realised the essence of the story fully and saying the next 2 eps not satisfying might be a bitter take but I respect your point. Orb is a masterpiece irrespective though.

man this whole episode and nowaks death is done so well. its genuinely one of the best anime episodes of all time

B
Barack O. Llama · January 10, 2026

nowak is obviously the villain but you are definitely being too harsh on him. a belief was drilled into him for a long time so it makes sense that the words of strangers won't change his mind. like imagine some random homeless guy tried to tell you that your house wasn't yours, you wouldn't even consider the possibility that he was right. that's the level of manipulation put into nowak. yeah he did bad things but he is 100% the victim of this story

maattthhhh · January 10, 2026

18:13 like so many comments have explained before, it's how some interpreted verses in the bible for Earth to be in the center of the universe. And if you go against that interpretation, specially if it's believed by the leaders of the Church, then you're considered a blasphemer if you start studying Heliocentrism. 44:13 Still deserved though. Bro had Nowak believe Jolenta died, and just allowed him and others torture people for 30 years. Greedy bozo didn't even care about spreading the truth either.

Up until now, the story took place in fictional Kingdom of P, and the whole story in general was a work of fiction created by author. However, right now we are in actual Kingdom of Poland, and the story from now of course is still fictional, but contain some historic elements and some actual historic figures

I agree, anyone in the entire world that is obsessed with politics or always talks about whoever they support is absolutely insane. HUGE red flags. and everyone like that I have ever known coincidentally has been an awful person

Are there any plans to finish kara no kyoukai? The fifth movies it the best one so it would be a shame not to react to that one. Did enjoy watching Nowak get schooled,I think the fact that whether it was blasphemy or not could change on interpretation really shows how human the church as an organization is. They did perscute Gallileo quite famously for Heliocentrism as well, that being said I do feel for Nowak, he believe he was right and believed he was following a greater good he was a villain but he didn't think he was, but didn't question his emotions. Draka dying felt horrible I wanted her to be big and have a good life. The next part is a weird one it reminds me of the end of part 5 jojo, where it sort of more about the message, the guy we will now be following is a real person in history which in the real world at least went on to discover heliocentrism.
