about how chekhov's gun is used in a good story, i like to think about it as the gun is used in an interesting unexpected way, a good red harrying also supports the story, it could be a complication, a solution to a future problem, or anything really, but i think a red herring just for the sake of "tricking the reader" or "surprising the reader" is pointless, the writer can always surprise the reader by saying "a metior falls from the sky and kill everyone" that's surprising but not satisfying, ineresting, and (probably) doesnt serve the theams of the story.
It's Badeni, not Badini 😅 The Polish W is pronounced as a V, so Nowak sounds like Novak. If you wanna get a W sound in Polish, then it's Ł/ł.
To answer your question: No, Inquisitors are not religious soldiers... they are more like Religious militia. Their job was to root out any heresy. That included investigating, identifying the threat and punishing the heretics. Just like the Spanish Inquisition
'Chi' can mean 'Wisdom/knowledge'. It does not mean orb. However it is the reading of the first kanji in 地球 (chi-kyū) which means 'Earth/Globe'. At 13:34, the card shows the kanji 知 and the stylized katakana character チ (chi). The チ also has a little ball sweeping round it. Now, 知 is pronounced 'chi' and means 'Wisdom/knowledge'. The ball sweeping round the チ (chi), can be represented by the kanji 球 (kyū = ball). So this gives the pronunciation 'chi-kyū' which is also the pronunciation of 地球 (Earth). Finally, the vertical sentence beside the チ says 地球の運動について which means "Regarding the Earth's movement". In short, the card at 13:34 shows the kanji symbol for 'Wisdom/knowledge' and a clever way (using the チ character and a circle) of representing the Earth.
hell yeah more orb peak
🎶Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel!🎶
19:49 time to go back to school Luke! This is something we are taught in the XX and XXI centuries! Ovals and elliptical orbits are a bit hard to teach but seem to be taught at the latest in high school. We (people of the present) know planets don't actually orbit the Sun in a perfect orbit. It actually isn't a circular orbit but rather elliptical. We don't orbit the sun, we orbit something called the barycenter, which is a point in the solar system that's usually inside the Sun but can be outside of it, it doesn't necessarily align with it. So what Badeni realized was the flaw of thinking of orbits as perfect circles
To be specific, "chi" is part of "chikyuu", which is the Earth. It's actually the "kyuu" part that refers to an orb while the "chi" refers to ground or land but I'm assuming the distributors thought "Ground" wouldn't have made for an intriguing title compared to "Orb". There was no possible way they could have maintained the wordplay here anyway, although I think they should have just left the word at the start of the title as "Chi".
13:43 yep and yep. The sound of "chi" carries multiple meanings in japanese. Each of those meanings is written in a specific way so it's only ambiguous when spoken aloud. "Chi" can mean orb (round, as in perfection), Earth (as in our planet, the reality we live in), Truth/Intelect (what makes us sentient, "perfect" beings) and blood (what makes up the reality of our bodies). So many ways of seeing the universe and humanity
Yep 10 years have past the show tells you around when you flash forward.
To give a very simplified answer to your question about what Badeni figured out (it won't be explicitly explained in the show), it's the realization that every planet affects one another. The perfect circles would happen only if the Sun was the only source of gravity, but as we know that's not the case. It is the largest by far, sure, and that's why the solar system stays even remotely intact, but not the only one. And so when you have multiple sources of smaller gravity affecting one another (planets) with a large one at the center (the Sun), you get ellipses.
Not quite. Elliptical orbits are the general case for any 2 body system - there doesn't have to be any other gravitational influence to cause an elliptical orbit. In fact, in an ideal 2 body system, circular orbits are a very special case and quite unlikely. What Badeni realized was that a planet orbiting the sun did not have to be in a perfectly circular orbit, but that it could still orbit in an ellipse - and this better fitted with the data he had. Of course perturbations from other planets would quickly disrupt any perfectly circular orbit in a multi-body system, but that's not the main cause of elliptical orbits in general (and remember, Badeni would have known nothing about gravity and so wouldn't have even conceived of interactions between the planets).
