the track Nightstalker has similar vibes to Vangelis' Blade Runner Blues
So where's more Luke? Stand Alone Complex is waiting. I enjoyed re watching this movie 'along side' you.
Ghost in a Shell was a great story that brought the concepts of questioning "What is life" and "What is the self" to the forefront and put it into a frame of reference with the ideas of society. When does one of these things start or even at what point do they end for that matter. When expanding into the series they were able to broaden the way to look at these things even more by putting then into different contexts, and scenarios. With even more action, suspense, and mystery as they got into deeper topic like they do in psychological thrillers (ex. Psycho-Pass). Varying from espionage, conspiracy, security secrets, morals, identity, and even interpersonal relationships. All things that stem back the the French Philosopher René Descartes "I think, therefore I am".
The series ghost in the shell stand alone complex is really good for exploring more about the unique topics that ghost in the shell brings up. The second movie is good but more abstract in my opinion. The music in both series and movies are really good.
Watch the series, please! You don't get a good view of this world, it's characters or the stories by just watching the movie! The series are so much better!
There's a second movie! It wasn't very well received if I remember because it was for some reason marketed as an action movie by the suits, but it's very cool and trippy, and expands on the world more. Highly recommend it if you want more like this! And yeah afterwards, the anime is realllllly good too :D
If this movie was to your liking, pls watch GitS: SAC - you will like that even more
So the new "major" is essentialy her and puppet master's "child" The puppet master talked about being a lifeform but at the end said that there is still one thing separating it from one, being procreation. Not cloning but creting new unique lifeform with someone else, new one having something from both. Since the puppet master was a mind without a body and Major felt like she was a body without a mind, the new "lifeform" would have at least those things from them. That's also what the line "real and false images faces each other on either side of a mirror" means. They both felt like not actual persons for the opposite reasons. (also why the dialogue happening with swapped bodies is so genious" Now their "child" can actually live a life as a person, major not having most of her tied to her manufacturer and him having a body. A child inheriting the wishes of their parents in a way.
I'd be so happy for Luke to watch more GITS.
This movie is highly rewatchable, every time I watch it I feel like I found something new
It's been a while since I watched GiTS SAC but I think there was less nakedness, and more funny tanks.
This conversation is incredibly deep and gets a bit philosophical. One of the most important lines he says is that "we're two of a kind, like real and false images faces each other on either side of a mirror." The major really struggled with knowing if she actually had a soul or she was just a shell. Remember the whole conversation where she said she can't see her brain. Now the puppet master was basically an AI that seem to gain consciousness. But he didn't have an actual body., which is why he saysy he was stuck in the network. So they're literally fusing a ghost into a shell. One topic this anime delves into is about the soul and if it's part of the body or they're actually separate. It gets really deep and complex covering other topics like the self, what it means to be alive or human and many more topics. If you check out the series you should definitely think about the dub. There's a lot of deep conversations like the last one in this and it can be easy to miss them. People don't realize just how much this movie influenced movies and anime.
Let me just echo another recommendation for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The TV show is in a different continuity to this movie but that's not a problem, it's all about the cyberpunk atmosphere over any specific storyline. If you want to explore more of this world in greater detail then Stand Alone Comples is a must. When you get right down to it Stand Alone Complex really is a police procedural, you follow the cast as they investigate day to day cybercrime cases and just occasionally those cases might have implications towards the season finale. Besides, I find that the version of the Major in Stand Alone Complex is a bit easier to follow as a de facto protagonist, she's still got that existential angst but is a lot more sociable as a person.
now i wanna watch Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and arise
if you found this brutal as in not gory but wow with the deaths and the gunshot and the major pulling her own arm off just WAIT for akira. ho boy your in for a treat :) :) :)
The anime explains the world much much more. If I watched this movie with zero context I would be extremely lost.
definitely. the arise series was oddly good in a different way. ive only seen it once so i dont remember too much. but some of the scene like the plane flying overhead were just superb.
So, Luke gonna watch GitS: SAC now? Its two similar stories in a nice drawn out pace that he'd like. Also Youtube safe.
This movie has a direct sequel, Ghost in the shell Innocence, but they don't follow the same plot. Great to watch, but the original movie is just so brilliant, so good that became a turning point on the cyberpunk genre. The series people mention, Stand alone complex is also highly praised, however, it's a different continuity.
The VA for the Major (Atsuko Tanaka) is the voice of caster from the fate series and Flamme from Frieren
There is indeed more, as others (and me) have mentioned here and in the comments of the first half. However, there is nothing that directly continues from where this movie left off. The sequel movie to this, Innocence, shares the same continuity but plot-wise doesn't directly relate to the events of this movie. It also leans even heavier on the same atmosphere this movie has. Worth the watch, but expect to be left confused.
I think his voice actor is Akio Otsuka but idk if hes in naruto tbh
i do highly recommend ghost in the shell stand alone complex
Ghost in the Shell to me is hyper complex intrigue fought with pure competence. With an atmosphere that feels almost perfect. Been dying for anyone to react to Stand Alone Complex I hope you are the first someday.
There is more, check comments under the 1st half The series Stand Alone Complex does have some nudity but nothing that needs to be censored. But personally I think having the reaction on Twitch would be too distracting As for Batou VA... it's the same as the Psycho-Pass greyhaired enforcer, Thorkell front Vinland saga and many more...
You did the OP of the series before and loved it, for what that’s worth. But yeh watch the series please…….. personally I think the series requires a bit more brain work than what you can do in a twitch slot, so it’s better suited as a YouTube/ Patreon watch. The series doesn’t have nips tho I think? Least that’s what I remember the mods were saying on discord.
In the end, they became a new person, neither the Major nor the Puppet Master. Now they go out and live their life. There’s more, but most of it is alternate universe. I recommend the TV series Stand Alone Complex. Thankfully, the TV series is Twitch safe.
It kinda has more, Ghost in the Shell became a very popular franchise in japan after this and got TONS of shows. This franchise is a trip, pure hard sci-fi juice for those who enjoy the existential crisis 🎉
