I actually read a note from the author in the novel saying that while he was recovering in the hospital and couldnt write new material he still wanted to publish something so he took the scripts for these eps that were 10 years old at the time and wrote them into the novel as side chapters to make the season 1 OVAs canon 😅 he figured it would be something easy to write in while he was resting in bed since they were already written out beforehand the season 3 OVA is the only one thats an actually important canon side story for some of the season 4 plot but the season 1 and 2 OVAs are just fun side stories. There are some canon shorts that take place after season 3 as well.
I looked up where you can watch the season 1 specials. Each of them are only about 3-4 minutes long and there are 6 of them. They are just fun little side clips that were included in the Blu-Ray and didn't air on TV. They are not available on Crunchyroll. yeah there is so much content that the side story volumes tend to get cut out sometimes so the OVAs are a good way of showing them off.
