Interesting... I remember watching Jessica on the eleventh season of American Idol in 2012 when she was 17 or 18? I thought that's what this video reaction was, before re-reading the title. She finished as the runner-up... I'm pretty sure she's already considered a celebrity at this point, she released an album, guest stared on Glee, she's performed along side Jennifer Hudson and others, was even invited to the White House to perform for Obama and his family. It feels a little disingenuous the storyline they're trying to push here, a bit produced. I'd find it hard to believe her and Simon are strangers to one another. She is amazing though, you should look up her performance with Jennifer Holliday on American Idol, she should've won that year in my opinion.
I do think that they'd need to have someone with THAT level of talent to bring her back like this, in that case. It does remind me of Angelina Jordan, who I think we heard was basically not contract-allowed to win the season she competed in? So maybe they're allowing her to be a part of the season under the caveat that she can't win, but will get a bunch of publicity and attention that will benefit her career. I agree that framing it like that was the last time they saw her was the first season is disingenuous and it could backlash quite harshly against her, talent or not. We'll just have to watch it play out. I also want to add that what makes it frustrating to me is less that she competed before and more that she's clearly been acting as a professional in the music business for years. This competition is sold to viewers as an amateur star-finding thing, and she's clearly had many chances. Taking that spot may make the person who ultimately wins against her feel all that much more impressive, but to the person who would have had her spot, if they were a genuine amateur... I wish they didn't do this stuff.
