High King Margo Crown Template
It was beyond flattering to have a couple people ask me to share my High King Margo crown silhouette with them so they could make their own! Like, dang. What a compliment :3 But that meant I had to put together a template that other people could actually use, so: here ya go! My only condition is that if you make something using my template, YOU HAVE TO SEND ME A PICTURE. That's the law. It's legally binding. I'm the one wearing a paper High King crown, so I do, in fact, get to make the rules. Sorry.
The 8.5" x 11" printer-friendly template is attached at the bottom of this post!
What you'll need:
Printed crown template (attached to bottom of this post)
Tape
Scissors
Gold paper for crown
Sturdy black/dark paper or card stock for the crown backing
Red and green papers the for crown jewels
Lightbox or way to trace/transfer crown design onto gold paper
Craft blade/X-acto knife
Glue
First, obviously, print and cut out the template along the dotted lines.
Except for one.
I left that little bit of design overlap to help people align the two crown sides together for a more seamless fit- however! If matching up the hatch marks is enough and you don't need the overlap, you totally can just cut it off! I dunno man, I'm just trying to be helpful by giving people options??
Why would I make instructions like this. I'm so sorry.
Once you have aligned the two sides to create one continuous image, tape it down.
Trace your design onto your gold paper. Because it's hard to draw on shiny surfaces, I traced onto the back of the paper where the texture was more amenable to taking pencil lines.
Cut out the traced crown silhouette from the gold paper using a hobby blade. Also cut out the small red and green paper jewel shapes and stick them on. Sorry, I didn't include that in my template, you've gotta figure it out for yourself.
On your dark colored sturdy paper, trace widely around the gold silhouette, so it leaves a rim behind the gold design. This is the crown backing and it is a solid surface, it does not have any of the decorative holes cut out of it. Glue the gold and sturdy papers together.
Not Pictured: Cut out a strip from the sturdy paper that is long enough to wrap around your head. The average circumference of an adult's head is 20-23", according to google. The width of your strip should be, like, I dunno. Between half an inch to an inch? Wide enough to support the weight of the crown backing getting adhered to it. (I used the protective top paper from an Arches watercolor pad as my sturdy backing paper for the crown)
That's how I did it!
Like I said, if you use my template for some crafty project, you are bound by the powers invested in me by my paper crown that you have to send me pictures of what you make. SO SAYETH THIS HIGH KING.
