VTT tiles for 2021
Just wondering if any of you guys have a preference for the kind of VTT maps I start work on next year?
Note that I hope to get around to most of these eventually ...so this is really just to help me decide what comes first.

Without a grid you can use different scales, line them up how you want, and even put them at an angle, just let the VTT do the grid, if you make the "solid" part of the tile transparent then the VTT can fill that in for you and they can be overlaid.
To answer the grid question ...it's kinda baked into my textures. But, one thing I need to do for sure, is show how easy it is to align it to the grid of Roll20. I think I'll do a blog post in the new year :)
i’ll add that a map/tiles sans grid lines is more ideal for roll20 as it’s difficult for me make them line up so that the tokens can easily be moved on the grid and line up in the grid
Another option would be to take existing tiles and apply different effects to them. I'm running a campaign currently where much of the dungeon is flooded for instance and tiles that change (water, lava, etc.) would be a nice touch.
Ian is correct about the grid. Roll20 has a grid you can turn on or off. Sometimes it is nice not to have a grid.
I like the idea of mines but abandoned mines rather than working mines perhaps.
Would you be able to do versions without squares? On Foundry VTT for example you can superimpose a grid on the tabletop and use that (instead of trying to line it up), then just place tiles, as long as all the tiles are the same relative dimensions it would work.
