The next project...

Hello all! Time for another update/peek at what I'm working on at the moment :)

Now, I’m not sure why - but I’ve got it into my head that I want/need to make another ‘dungeon in a box’ kinda thing :)

However, when I’ve made them in the past (like in these videos HERE and HERE), I’ve just used a cardboard box that I already have – and made textures to fit that particular box. And while that’s worked well for me, it’s not really something that can be easily replicated unless someone else happens to have the exact same size box.

So, this time, the plan is to also make the box as well – just so that everyone can make something similar (should they feel so inclined).

And if you look at the picture I’ve posted above… that’s a (very) basic prototype that shows what I have in mind for the inside of the bottom of the box (the top will also have something similar – so that they can be placed side by side to make a small dungeon).

I’ve also added a few numbers to to the pic to better explain some of the pieces (as I've gone with a bit of a weird layout to try and maximise the playable space):

1. These ‘shelves’ are essentially filler pieces that occupy the half inch space behind the walls (i.e. we’re not going to be able to place a miniature there – so I’ll use it to add interest to the room by adding a few bits and pieces on top of the shelf).

2. The doorways also take up a half inch wide space (i.e. the same as the walls) – so these are essentially ‘non-spaces’ when counting movement or whatever.

3. This will be the height of the box itself. It’s slightly more than twice the height of the 2.5D walls that I’m using – just so that when I create the other half of the dungeon on the inside of the lid – there’ll be a slight clearance between the top of both walls when the box is closed.

I’ve also started on some of the artwork as well…

...and I think that’s coming along nicely (though there’s still a lot more to do).

So, that’s the plan for now… I’ll probably also have an adventure idea to go along with it – but I’ll be keeping it pretty vague/simple I think.

For now though, I just thought I’d post this update to let you all know what I’ll be up to for the rest of this month and into July. I think it’s going to be a lengthy process to get everything done (so it might be the only thing I manage to get done next month July) – but like I say… I’ve got it into my head that I ‘need’ to make/share another one of these… so, apparently… that’s what I’m doing :S
