449 - Suikoden V sucks...
HELLO and welcome to another Monday Post. Yet again, I have nothing exciting to talk about, so this will be a short one. -_-

THE BETRAYAL. I was really looking forward to unlocking the bathhouse feature in Suikoden, only to be majorly disappointed. I don't know what went wrong during development, but it looks awful. The characters just sit there in an awkward arrangement, staring into space without blinking. And that's it. Oh, and you can't control the camera in the game, but in the bathhouse, they let you zoom in. I wish they didn't, though, because it only makes the whole thing even more jarring.
THIS IS SERIOUS! I am not kidding, the stupid bathhouse broke something inside of me. I was really close to dropping the game after this. I continued to play because I try not to abandon games halfway through if I can help it, but everything became less fun from this point on. I realize how ridiculous this sounds, but the feature I was looking forward to the most ended up being the most unfinished one. I can't forgive this. I like playing older games because I get this “they really did their best with the little tools they had” feeling. But here, I got more of a “they really didn’t care to do this properly” feeling, and I don’t like feeling that way about a game I’m playing. :(
NO MORE PINK GLASSES. The bathhouse opened my eyes to many of the other issues the game has. The entire world looks bare, you can't control the camera, the NPCs never move, and so on. Everything feels devoid of life. And for some reason, there are fucking dogs and cats everywhere. There are more stray animals on the streets than people, and they look extremely out of place. Also, I hate my castle's layout. There is no rhyme or reason to it, and with every upgrade, it gets bigger and it gets harder to find the people I need to talk to.
GOOD THINGS ARE GOOD. On the bright side, the writing continues to be great, and the characters often say things that would never make the cut if this game were to get remastered. Also, the battle system is fun, and the character design is absolutely superb. I also appreciate the rare on-engine story cutscenes that present the rare chance to take a closer look at the characters. All in all, my honeymoon period with Suikoden V is over. I intend to beat it and keep the good times I had with it in my memory, but I don't plan to ever revisit it, and I won't be recommending it to anyone... (How could they neglect the bathhouse like that!??)
Mr. LAZARE sent me a photograph of the latest Akabur merch he created. I must say, I really like these ones. They look extremely cute. I want them on my desk. XD

Life is short, and we don't have much free time... Don't hesitate to get rid of the things that just make you feel bad, man. I hope you will find a decent game next time.

The original one was a series of barrels sitting there, this is a holdover from that. 4 ironically did it a little better... despite being on a boat, you have TWO tubs, for the guys and gals, and can pop over between them. Also the dialogue you get with certain combinations are hilarious in that one. I found 4 so much more amusing, it just feels much more chill... ocean adventure rather than Mexican civil war kind of thing. Also you're cruising around in your base instead of having to run off from your castle all the time, and you can always just say 'screw it' and go fishing off the aft deck!

Okay, but how about all the gorgeous women in the game? Sialeeds, Arshtat, Jeane, Kisara, and more It’s criminal how little smut there is of the game
Yes, I absolutely love the character design, and that is exactly why I get so mad. Apart from the very infrequent cut scenes there is almost no way to admire the character models. During battles the camera only zooms in for the co-op moves and during regular gameplay you are stuck with the preset camera that never changes angle. T_T I feel like saying it again just in case: the character design in Sukioden V is absolutely fantastic! Love it!!!!

Sometimes the promise in a just doesn't hold up. Yes it sucks, but if they all did it right, we would never get any work done.
I guess you're right. But I still wish they would at least take the time to arrange the characters a bit differently or something. This feels like some animation that did not load properly and now everyone is displayed at a placeholder location while t-posing. :(
Oh yes, nothing to say, the bathroom were never any good, should had warned you, in some games they do some actions but yes, no interesting scenes
Sad... I always get excited when I hear that there is some kind of bathhouse or hot spring in a game. I remember the one in FA: Three Houses was also a huge let down. Why do they do this? Why put a thing like that into a game only to do nothing with it. T_T
I did the same with suikoden, bro i was so dissapointed with it...
Somehow it makes me feel much better to know that someone else got bothered by this as well. ^^
