444 - He-Man!
HELLO and welcome to this week's Monday post! Let's quickly recap the current state of things: my car door is still a mess, Trio of Towns has become my main game, the new He-Man is OK, and I'm continuing to work on Reporter Trainer. ^^
SHOP. First things first, this week's new gallery item is an Aladdin piece called "Roleplay" (or should it be "The Roleplay" instead? I have no clue). It's an old drawing, but it has a fun (and kind of wholesome) idea behind it, so even if you've seen it before, I think you'll still enjoy checking it out again. Especially considering that this time I'm also sharing the original PSD file along with it.
HE-MAN. Multiple people told me to watch the new He-Man movie, so I did. Negatives first: Weird Star Wars-looking robot. Too much screen time given to some nameless NPC girl. The Sword of Power gets broken. Apparently, "the real power is inside you." And finally, why were some characters who were originally white changed to Black or Asian? (That's a rhetorical question—we all know why.) Now for the positives: Great casting for Adam's mom, Teela, and the Sorceress. Adam himself looked good as well, despite not being nearly muscular enough. Teela even got her lore-accurate outfit, even if it was only for the last two minutes of the movie.
OVERALL, the movie was OK. While watching it, I never felt like the creators actively hated me, and that's already good enough by modern standards. Oh, and one other thing that was super dumb: apparently, all the character names (including He-Man) were made up by Adam instead of being their real names. Really? Since when? What about She-Ra (who they teased at the end)? Did Adam make up her name too? That was such a dumb and unnecessary detail. It kind of reminded me of that Star Wars moment when we learned where Han Solo's name came from.

OTHER NEWS. MangaGamer decided to update its website design. Basically, they went from a traditional, comfy old-internet look to modern, soulless corporate slop. Can't say I'm surprised. If anything, I'd be surprised if there were anything in this world that didn't eventually turn into an inferior version of itself. I think that's just how the universe works. Everything gets shittier with time... everything except my games. XD
TRIO OF TOWNS has become my main game. It's very addictive and fun, but it's a farming game, so there's not much to brag about. I had my first festival and decided to invite the local waitress to a dance. She's married and not a romanceable character, which doesn't stop her from being flirty all the time. Her lines after the dance were fun as well. ChatGPT says that Trio of Towns has an insanely huge amount of events and character dialogue compared to the other Harvest Moon games, and it kind of shows. ^^
THE WORK. Good news: I've finished working on Thompson's girlfriend's character sprite. Inking, coloring, facial expressions—it's all done. Now I can get back to working on the game itself.
THE WORK (2). The character's name is Linda. She's a side character, but she still pops up in the story quite often. I don't have any educational events planned for her because I already have way too many girls (with multiple ending routes) in this game. Basically, she's a bit of a dumb gold-digging blonde with silicone breasts and fake lips. Drawing the lips was the biggest challenge because I'd never had to draw this type of bimbo lips on a character before. All in all, I tried not to make her too attractive, but I'm worried I might have failed. ^^

Hi, I see your game “Princess Quest” on Steam. Could you please tell me if its release is planned? I missed it a bit.
You're right. It's still there. Damn. I should probably find the time to take it down or something. A while back, I was trying to put it on Steam, but to avoid copyright claims, I'd have to cut out about half of the content. It just wasn't worth the hassle.
Also Linda may not have any educational events, but she has already taught us one important lesson: never underestimate the workload created by a single pair of lips...

Eh, if anything isn't original, despite anyone's rave reviews or whatever, I don't watch it. Comic movies, cartoon live action transfers, whatever, I like to try and de-incentivise this nonsense. Either re-release the old schlock or make something new, that's what I want.
Didn't expect any less from you, Trevor. You truly are a man of character we should all aspire to be. Well, to be fair, I act more or less the same way when it comes to this, simply because I've lost all interest in modern entertainment as a whole.

Thanks for sharing (again) the C64 pack! Maybe I was not the only AI-tolerant grey-haired Commodore 64 enjoyer.. Linda has definetly the kind of presence that probably makes Thompson instantly lose 30 IQ points... Also… unless my eyes are betraying me, I think I spotted Avy / "skater girl" in the Linda WIP!!! 🚨 What is she doing there? Was she used for scale? Moral support? Secret cameo? Design supervisor? Bimbo quality control? 🤔 Reporter Trainer keeps getting more and more fun to follow.

I don't watch modern movies, to many remakes or just mediocre writing/acting. I won't go into the race changes and other garbage. I'll be dead and gone before they get an actually good original idea again. I do have an exception and that's the Toho Godzilla movies. I do enjoy everyone except shit, I mean shin, fuck that puppet piece of shit.
You truly are a wise man. I use more or less the same approach, to be honest. I think the last movie I watched was that Spider-Man movie with the three Spider-Men in it, which I only enjoyed because of Tobey, Doctor Octopus, and the Green Goblin. It was nice to see them again. As for the Godzilla movies, maybe I should look into them.

I was planning on seeing the movie but hearing from your perspective I maybe hold off for a bit. Just for a week right after Spiderman brand new day.
Well, I'm a grumpy old man, so there's a good chance you'll like the movie quite a lot. There is a lot to like about it. I just felt it could have been better, but in this day and age we should be grateful for what we have when it comes to entertainment, because there isn't all that much quality new stuff.
Love Linda, and thanks for the review. You know I don't hate making characters black or Asian in principle, but as a friend told me once, "Entertainment is the new religion," So it depends on who- making Nick Fury black? Works fine; why not? Wonder man? at least his brother is also black, and its a series B, but Batman? Superman? Those are major words, even worse if you do it in a character whose race was important for the plot. Great Monday Akabur

I enjoyed the He-Man movie. Didn't go in expecting much of anything and I liked when they leaned into the cheese. I got a good chuckle when at the end they were all standing in a circle and leaned back to laugh in unison. I will say, the decision to make it so that the goofy names were made up by Adam DOES mean that, despite the far more serious tone and presumably demeanor of Force Captain Adora, she herself ALSO came up with the goofy name "She-Ra" for herself in the Masters of the Universe continuity.
I'm curious whether there will eventually be a She-Ra movie...
Linda need some extra work But maybe an after patch who know ?
