Using AI to create refs is actually a very cool use case. I think it still has a decent chance to fuck up anatomy so definitely worth double checking, but still, actually pretty cool.
Yes and yes. So far what AI does best is giving you something close to what you need QUICKLY. It NEVER gives you exactly what you need though.
Loving your games and your updates - Akabur rules! Truly one of if not the best doing it. Thought I'd ask a random question and see if you've ever watched some sleazy sci Fi movies before? Highly recommend heavy metal, rock and rule, and Barbarella. Think you'd enjoy them

When I was a kid I used to have Deathstalker on VHS. I think it's similar in tone. I love this type of movies. Thank you for reminding me.
I think AI can be useful for getting a general "Okay, but what if this" kind of thing. However, I don't think it will ever get as good as what the Akaman can produce ^_^

I used to play Azur Lane a lot several years ago. Even watched the Anime. Eventually I gave up though. It's difficult to keep up with gatcha games that have no logical end.

Don't get too confident with your assumptions, thinks are never as they seem with my games :) There is only one thing for certain, there will be educational scenes with the skater girl.

Love the look of the hand-drawn art, but yeah, definitely think using AI to brainstorm and think through stuff is a good idea. Can give it a rough idea of what you want, and it will allow you to get an idea for things without having to burn through your own time. I know it gets a bad rap because people use it for an end product, but using it as a tool to speed up your productivity I think is the ideal use-case for it. Edit: Also love the skater girl character!
I have no moral compass when it comes to my work: I will steal, rob, and use every trick in the book to insure the best result. Maybe that's nothing something to brag about, but it is what it is. If I ever see a way to use Ai for my advantage - I will. As long as it's to the best result and not just another way to cut corners.
What program did you use for AI to clean up your rough sketch? I think I want to try that method out.

Loving the creativity in this batch, especially the April pose breakdown, it’s like anatomy class but taught by someone who really gets our... interests. The "skater girl" is getting more and more iconic with every update. Her design totally nails that “street-smart but hot as hell” vibe. Just one tiny thing I noticed… weren’t there mesh sleeves on her arms in a previous version? I thought they added a cool punky edge that made her stand out even more (just throwing it out there in case that was still up for debate). Thanks again for sharing all this progress, it really feels like we’re watching the characters come to life week by week. Turtle power! 🐢💥
About the skater girl's appearance. Yes she did have those sleeves but I decided to do the base drawing without them. I need to take her personality into account, and the sleeves made her look a bit too aggressive. That being said I still want to try and add those fishnet sleeves and also a black and white sleeves if Photoshop during coloring just to see how it would look. She may end up wearing one of those in the final design, we'll see... ^_^
My semi hot take with gen AI working its way into actual art is that if it is used as a starting/early stage part of your process, that’s OK imo. It’s no different than searching up any other existing content as a reference. Tracing was the method bad artists of years past used. Today those same people are now generating fully rendered pieces of AI slop with no pride as artists. What you’re doing would never take work away from someone else since you do your own concepting/sketches… all your doing is speeding up that part of your workflow. So long as you are still drawing your own art, I’m in. Just don’t forget the butts and butt related educational content.

AI has it's time and place, I knew a few artist that use it then go over it again in some art program daz3d/blender/photoshop ect, and fix it up. I know a dev using it for music since some artists don't want to be associated with that kind of thing or it's just to expensive for an indie dev. The art looks great, enjoy the book and have fun.

Casey looks so badass, pretty good update. Careful with AI content, as it's really hated and many people get overly emotional about it (there are some Bigfoot adventures that look too good) keep the good job!
