Dev Log: Save Slots

Can you believe it? An actual, bona fide, Dev Log.

Not some ramble where I'm telling you where I'm going away for a break or how one of my cat's done a whoopsie in a plant pot

A real .. dyed in the wool .. Dev Log

One minor complaint from earlier releases was limited number of save slots available for both Manual Saves and Ironman Saves. There were plenty. Fifteen for each .. but apparently people wanted more.

The reason for the limitation wasn't one by choice. I never said "Right! I'm just going to give them 15 save slots for each game type and they're gonna have to lump it!"

The issue was the nature of the save slot and the mechanisms behind it.

As you know, Ironman saves out after each dialogue and prevents manual saving. To do this I had to hijack the normal save game procedure that you usually find in Ren'Py based Visual Novels.

But after doing so - it left a jumbled mess that proved difficult to add the pagination needed.

More bluntly: I never had a clue how to do it once I'd cannibalised the original set up

And so I made the previews smaller to squeeze as many as I could onto the single page available for both Manual and Ironman saves and 15 for each was going to have to do!

Anyway, being the good egg that I am, I went back to it and dug into it again while a few images were being rendered over the last few days.

And we've done it.

There are now - technically - an unlimited amount of save game slots for both Manual and Ironman, although I have limited it at the moment to 99 pages worth for each .. :)

I think circa 1500 save slots for both different save types is more than enough and anybody who wants more is just being greedy!

Anyway! Just thought I'd let you know that a "job I needed to do" has been checked off the To Do list
