Dev Log: Burnouts, Breaks and Back To It
I'm not too ashamed to admit that I occasionally hit a bit of a burn out when I'm devving Behind The Curtain. Doing something like this is a huge commitment and more so when it's just one commitment amongst others.
I've got half a dozen areas where I doing things .. this, my YouTube channel, general art work that I like to put out there etc. And this isn't "just a hobby" - it pays my bills and so I've got to try and get the balance right across the board of what I'm doing and how much.
And it's true that Behind the Curtain takes up a lot of my time because there is an expectation there from you guys to get things sorted, quickly and out of the door. Certainly those who support me (and if you haven't yet - please consider it!!)
On the other side of that coin I'm not just going to push any old nonsense out either. I don't have a "that'll do" attitude with anything that i do - I always like to do things at as a high a level as I can (whether that level is good enough is for others to decide)
I generally work on Behind the Curtain 12 to 18 hours a day .. that might be building scenes, rendering, writing scenes and dialogue, coding any bits that need coding. And it takes it's toll now and then.
I've had a week or so off and have done so for a couple of reasons :
1) To recharge the batteries after a slog of a long scene (again, "scene" is loosely used as it's probably a scene with 3 distinct but linked parts .. so 1 scene .. 3 scenes .. take your pick!)
and
2) To do some of my bread and butter stuff that pays said bills. Patreon doesn't pay that much and so I need to occasionally stop working on BtC to get things out of the door in other areas.
So a big thank you to those who do support me here - it will forever be appreciated - and hence why I want to do such a top notch job on Chapter 3 for you guys.
So I've had a 10 day break. Well, kind of .. How about .. instead of 12 to 18 hours a day .. I've done 4 to 6 hours a day and done some other stuff too? Is that better? It's more realistic anyway! :)
But I'm back on it fully as of today and I want to have a couple of weeks bash at the next scene as I'm off to Amsterdam for a few days at the middle of this month to go and see .. art galleries and Museums .. honest .. that's the reason .. Maybe. Kind of. <whistles>
And so if I can get deep into this next scene before I go - I'll be as happy as a tourist in the Amsterdam Red Light District with a 100 euro's sticking out of my top pocket ..

Take good care of yourself first, then the rest. If you are really visiting Amsterdam, give a shout maybe we can have a beer or two 😉.
Ha! Would be a good idea – but I’m not sure how much free time I'm going to have until I get there. Really appreciate the offer though!
