Why play Adult Visual Novels?

It's not as easy as "one or the other". If it was for the story only, there are literally thousands of non-lewd VNs out there. If it was only for the sex scenes, there are easier ways to get those than playing through an AVN. The combination of a good story, well established, interesting and consistent characters, and some quality lewdness, is the trifecta I am looking for. When one of them falls apart, I often don't have it in me to keep on keepin' on. When they all come together on the other hand, I struggle with the patience to wait for the next update :) I do however see how I've been spoiled the last year or two, and AVNs with generic Gen3 characters and assets struggle to hold my attention. So render quality and originality is playing a larger part these days than it used to.
