A Question for Free Members
Perhaps there something I could do to make a "full" membership more enticing to you?

*i'm from your Youtube channel* I don't know. I think your content is not a problem. It's about my income. You make me found a path of HEMA and give me a knowledge that make me feel confident about which way i should go(Practice and tools for HEMA) . So i didn't be a guy who get inspired from RPG game and Anime(fantasy medieval style ) but do nothing and let the dream die. Thank you,Skallagrim.
Hi Skall, I was a paid subscriber for a long time but unfortunately money has just gotten a lot tighter. Once my partner finishes school I should have more to spare but to get through the next couple years I had to cut back on a lot of subscriptions and expenses.
I was in the old Ad-Blocker forgiveness tier for several years, until I did some subscription reorganizing. It just didn't make the cut versus the other patreons that I wanted the exclusives from. Have you seen Shadiversity's new strategy? They moved the video categories that weren't performing well over to a new $1 patreon tier. At that price point, I can support 5 creators instead of 1. And it's exclusive content that I would actually want to watch instead of the livestreams and behind the scenes stuff that are often on YouTubers' patreons, which aren't really my thing.
Hm, that might work.
I wanted to be a paid member but you didnt have time to do a chat each month for consulting.
Yeah, I wish I could fit that in, but I can barely keep up with the regular workload.
Started at a paid tier, then this was one of the things cut back when money got tighter :( Living in the USA, not expecting that to get better for a bit, sadly, since my income is from the military, and I'm expecting retired pay to be on the chopping block :(
Sorry to know. It's shameful to treat retired military personnel like that.
I just don't have the money right now to be a paid member. I would ver ymuch like to, since i follow your Youtube Content for a decate now. It's gonna happen eventually.
Between jobs at the moment. That's all that's keeping me from doing more
I used to be paid tier. I used to make animations and studying the combat displays were very helpful. Now I'm an author and the combat stuff is less relevant. I find the sword reviews to be of questionable utility, since I don't do combat or cutting myself and modern day replicas can only tell us so much about historical weapons since the materials and standards of craftsmanship are totally different. Stuff like the hussite flail and disk mace strike me as more valuable, since they are wildly different from other weapons (and I tried to send you a new whacky weapon, but as far as I know Quinn is still working on it), whereas the difference between a katana and messer for example is probably less than the difference between manufacturers (Windlass vs LK Chen for example). I always enjoyed the historical investigations, like the trident, flail, kusarigama, etc, but I feel like there have been less of those recently. It might be worthing redoing some historical investigations again, for example your Introduction to Axes and Maces video from 9 years ago is the video that brought me to the channel, and I'll bet there's some info there that'd be worth updating. Generally I enjoy the movie fight and sparring footage reviews, I think you add a lot of value in your commentary. The fantasy what-if stuff is also usually interesting, I did use some of your info from your golem video and guns in fantasy settings video in my latest book. When I was a paid member, I got a lot of enjoyment out of the Discord community. For a long time that was the main thing I felt compelled to pay for. Part of why I left was because it was getting a little boring there. Advertising the Discord more might attract people who wouldn't otherwise be attracted. And I'm thinking, don't just mention that it exists, show people what's going on. Share some of the pics and info from #history on YT, answer some of the #questions on YT, review some of the HEMA memes people share, stuff like that. Part of why I don't rejoin is because the Discord is a complete secret now. Maybe I would enjoy going back, but there's no way to know, and I'm not really a gambling man. And naturally, I don't expect your whole audience to share the same tastes as me and I don't know for sure if anything would bring me back, but there's one datapoint for ya.
Thanks for the detailed feedback! That's definitely a big part of the challenge these days, I've covered so much already that it's hard to even find new unusual stuff.
I've got ongoing medical issues that harshly limit how much I can spend, and I just don't have the money, unfortunately. I wish I could fund all the content creators I love, but, well, funding me comes first. :c
Totally understandable.
Same problem here as pretty much everyone else. Money's tight but I plan to subscribe when I can.
If it weren't for my own financial difficulties right now, I'd be at a higher tier. I used to be at the tier that got discord access. I hated to have to go to free, because I was happy to support you and the channel, but it's just not financially viable at the moment :(
I would do one of the higher, if I could. I've just been having a lot of medical issues over the last few years that have dramatically effected my ability to work.
Sorry to know that you have to go through these struggles.
I've been meaning to switch to a paid tier. It's got nothing to do with what you provide and everything to do with my wallet.
Yeah, it's tough economic times.
I would support if I could skalagrim, but I'm a student, so I need to save my money for my study. I am part of your patreon because I like to subscribe to the free tier of the people I want to support when I can. Keep up the good work, I love your videos!
Perfectly understandable.
