Question for You about Tiers/Perks
Hey folks, here is something I could use your input on.
Currently the main tiers for perks are Duelist ($5) and Elite Duelist ($25). So far I've put up basically all extra content for the $5 tier, which is then also automatically included in the $25 tier. The higher tier opens up extra channels on the Discord server, including a voice channel for hangouts during livestreams.
All things considered, I feel like it's quite a gap between 5 and 25, without a considerable jump in what you get. Which makes me want to balance things a little more.
Here are some options I'm considering:
1. Restructure the tiers to where $5 gets livestreams and the occasional extended, ad-free edits of public videos I've been putting up, while exclusive original content goes to the $25 tier. However, I'm not all that happy with the idea of suddenly withholding stuff to shove it over to the higher membership.
2. Add more perks to the $25 tier. This makes sense, although I have to be careful about keeping it sustainable because I've already been hitting my limit, and I don't want to risk getting completely burned out again.
3. Leave everything as it is and reduce the price of the Elite Duelist tier, say to $20 or $15. That would mean a loss, at least for now, but it might encourage more memberships in that tier over time.
Suggestions? Opinions? Objections? :)
Is there anything in particular you would be interested in as extra content or other rewards? What might motivate you to upgrade your pledge, if you're currently in the $2 or $5 tier? And for the free members: What's my best chance to talk you into signing up for a pledge? Don't make me shake a pommel at you... ;)
Finally, how satisfied are you in general? As much as I appreciate any form of support, I also want you to get something out of it.
Thanks!

I'm a $2 Tier and just want watch your videos so that's good enough for me. Your content alone is a perk for me.
Can't argue with that, and I appreciate the support. :)
I agree to some of the other opinions. I'm here to support you and not really that interessted in the perks. I take them, they are nice. Direct interaction is difficutly anyway due to time zones. I think 5$ is an easy sum to spend, 25$ would be too much.
Yeah, I guess something in between would be good. Either way, seems like quite a few people are simply interested in giving support, regardless of perks.
I don't really have time to invest in enjoying any perks. I'm just here to support at the amount I'm able so I can continue to get your content on YouTube :D So I don't think I'd be motivated to change tier by anything in the tiers themselves.
So I don't even need to bribe you? Pfft... too easy! :D Seriously though, thank you.
Please do not burn yourself. That's the more important thing.
Yeah, it's easy enough to do.
I‘m for the same reason as Alex McGilvery at the $2 tier. I enjoy your content and the way you present it, that is perk enough for me
I appreciate it.
Hi Skall! For my opinion you should leave it as it is. I don‘t pay for content, I want to support you for your work (which i like :-) ). If you think there‘s a great gap between 5 and 25, why not creating a new category between these two? Best regards from Munich!
Right, I thought about an in-between category too, but then the question is what perks to add to it.
There's no way I could pledge more currently, but I could see myself opt for the top one in like 6 months with it being down to 15 or lower. I could only justify higher than that if I would go into medieval warfare professionally.
21st century professional medieval warfare, that'd be quite something. :)
I wouldn't mind a 10, just so I could give more support, but can't dish out the 25. As far as what you could offer at the "mid tiers". Not sure brother, I'm not really in it for the benefits, I just feel like we should support creators we love directly. Considering all of the knowledge you give us is practically free. Partial to the historical analysis and technique demonstrations myself. It's what I subscribed for way back in... well, I don't even remember when. It's when you released your sword vs. Axes video and you were on the other side of Canada lol.
I appreciate that. :)
Teach us how to win fights with blades maybe. Or whatever you are doing is good.
Step 1, unscrew your pommel...
I'm at 5$ tier and am not going to plausibly increase my membership level even if next tier goes to 10 or 15. Live participation isn't happening due to time zones. Don't really mind perks, enjoy YT content as is, patron as a form of adblock absolution.
Fair enough, thanks for letting me know. :)
I didn't even realize there were Elite only channels in Discord. Are they worth the money, if we're not regular live stream watchers? :-) Might that be something to promote more in Discord to encourage people to upgrade?
It's mostly just more banter, and I tend to be more active on the Elite channel, but you may not get that much out of it if you don't also watch and participate in streams.
Personally I'm on the duelist tier and would be perfectly satisfied with a simple update (just a written word most of the time and an occasionnal update video whenever you have spare time) on "personal" situation (not asking for details here of course ;-) ) and youtube perspective. And so letting most of the exclusive videos for the elite tier. But I may be peculiar so I don't know if it would be a good idea. On the other hand I very much like deadcard13's idea of giving elite some advance on excluive contents, it may be a good compromise.
Early access is a common perk, but personally I never saw much incentive in it. You're getting the same stuff, just a little earlier.
Don't want you to burn yourself out, but also don't want you to do anything that cuts into your income. Maybe you could do staggered releases for the tiers where Elite gets content a few days ahead of the other tiers. You would be providing a perk without altering your work load. Personally, the only thing holding me at the $2 membership is my employment situation. I plan to tier up once I'm back working again.
That's another reason why I thought about lowering it... the economy is tough, inflation has gone crazy.
#2 with more content seems like a good solution but that's only if your work load allows it. Now I am obviously biased being in the 5 buck tier but option #3 sounds the best to be and would make the higher tier much more appealing to join. For my monitary situation I just can't put 25 bucks in to this.
That's totally understandable, it's not an insignificant amount.
I'm at the $2 tier and I'm happy with just knowing I'm supporting you. I have a handful of artists I support at that level. I don't want to put all my support on one artist, so the lowest tier is perfect for me.
Yeah, that makes sense. There are so many artists/creators who deserve support, but pledges add up quickly.
