Retired detective: "I HAVE severe PTSD after years of investigating child abuse."
Retired Glendale Police detective, Phillis Walker, spent years investigating child abuse. She is now experiencing severe PTSD from it and is getting no help from the city.
It has been increasingly recognized that individuals exposed to the trauma of others within their professional roles can be affected by secondary traumatic stress. Despite this recognition, there is a dearth of literature examining the prevalence of secondary traumatic stress amongst police officers.
Recent studies explored secondary traumatic stress in over 600 personnel across the USA who investigate internet child exploitation. They found that the majority of participants experienced mild severity or lower of secondary traumatic stress symptoms. However, 15% of participants were experiencing levels of symptoms classified in the severe range.
Walker should be given the resources that she needs to help heal! Let's show her our heartfelt appreciation for her dedication, for saving many children and catching hundreds of perpetrators.
LOVE YOU ALL&

Oh, how awful this situation is. One would normally assume that this is what the police are trained for and I can’t bring myself to imagine the depths of the despair that she and other officers are going through. I’ll do my best to make sure that this is known to as many people as I can. And I wish her (and you) well. A neighbour of mine has a daughter who worked as a police officer for British Transport Police in Gatwick, and one of the hardest things I know her mother said to me was that how traumatic it was telling a family that someone had taken their lives by jumping in front of a train. And I’ve encountered both good police and also some bad ones to, but their stories need to be aired as well. I hope she has the time and help to recover from her hard hard work. Thankyou for bringing this to my attention. And she deserves a hug as well. As this just shows the effects of such a difficult and hard work done.
