THE SCARS ARE FOREVER. (!)
With figures showing that acid attacks are on the rise, and that, globally the majority of acid attack victims are still women, REAL WOMEN/REAL STORIES created and publish a brand new public service announcement film based on a disturbingly captivating and realistic SFX (Special Effects) makeup made by artist Karolina Marku. Marku's scars were fake. But for many women, this is all too real.
This PSA seeks to not only create awareness and address legal reform, but also to prevent further attacks from happening to women and girls, by seeking a change in the social norms which permit men and boys to think that this is acceptable behavior.
This PSA also hopes to communicate with those who plan to commit this horrendous crime; We urge you to watch this film, again and again, look what acid attack can do to a woman's face. IT'S IRREVERSIBLE. You have no permission to do that and you will be held accountable. Makeup is removable, scars are forever.
