I do like it better as vertical panels but that's only because I mostly use patreon on my mobile phone (because of notifications) and it's sometimes to small to read properly as a whole.

I think it depends on the comic. When it's boxy like this I tend to read multiple panels at once, or spend less time per panel. When it's a long strip, each panel gets more focus. So that could help the pacing depending on the comic. I read these in my email on my phone from the Patreon notifications :)

Long is better for reveal and mobile, but this also looks good 😁
