This is actually a good move. There' s been a lot of bots lately in the Patreon chats and it's getting harder to manage everything. I hope that everything goes well for you.

I think this is a reasonable choice. Besides people can comment on the story and chat about it on other platforms where you are posting.

It would be a good idea to also set up a honeypot chat. A single chat room that anyone can type in as soon as they join, but with a single pinned message: "Don't send a message in here, or you're banned" and a bot that does exactly that. It's important to set it up high in the server's chat order so it's the first one a bot will send messages to.

This is 100% one thousand times for the best for reasons you didn't touch on, I promise you. I was getting a little bewildered by it too, but technically they weren't breaking any rules so there was nothing to do about it. And the person who did a small complaint wasn't being honest about it. Even outside of moderation being hell and eating up time potentially, it's also for the best to not make space for people who don't have a wallet to be spending on a site like this as you don't know who's going to start joining the chat solely for the sake of making it their new hang out spot. This can be an issue for all sorts of reasons.

Refreshing as heck!! So many people who have Discords/chats are like 'lol none of my business what happens in those spaces' WITH THEIR NAMES ON THEM!

Chats on patreon are the weirdest thing. Badly implemented, over-controlled (by patreon) alternative to plenty of existing, working solutions. I'll keep staying away from them, no problem.
