WIP. WaB. Battle backgrounds. Ideas
For a long time I wanted to paint custom some backgrounds for battle screens in different locations in game. Several weeks ago I started the work :D Right now I'm working on other stuff, but I think it can be interesting to look at the early stage of the work.
This time I started with some loose drafts in my sketchbook.
On the picture, on the right side you can see existing background from the game. These are standard backgrounds (battlebacks) from RPG Maker VX Ace. I think they are very cool, so I want to make something matching.
On the left side you can see fragments from Calm's works. His backgrounds are great, so I put these fragments on the canvas as inspiration and references. Also there are a few photos of real life landscapes from reference packs.
And in the center you can see photos of my sketches. I put some colors on the top one.. and than I got distracted by drawing huge boobs :D
Hope to find time to continue the work on this drawings soon.

I like these very much, I've always thought that the backgrounds for combat were ok but the style was so noticeably different from the characters that it was kind of jarring. I hope it doesnt take a drastic amount of time to do but I am glad you are making your own versions.
I agree. It will be one of the challenges for me - to make backgrounds matching the style of the characters' illustrations. Hope I will succeed :D

Very very nice. This way the backgrounds also transport your individual style. And also you can match them better with the actual look of the places ingame. Maybe even hid some goodies ^^ in them. I'm looking forward in anticipation. Make them your own! Yo
Yeah, it will be also a way for me to show how the game world look when it's not a pixel art :)
