Changes!
I鈥檝e been having a good think about my YouTube channel and you my patrons here at Patreon, mainly ways to offer everyone here more than just my general audience gets.
I feel that more exclusive content would be useful to this end and I could create a greater number of smaller tutorial videos here just for patrons in a way that wouldn鈥檛 suit my YouTube channel necessarily.
The pressures of worrying about the videos being popular and the general health/algorithms of YouTube have restricted my choices for my channel, but wouldn鈥檛 be of concern here.
I really want to offer you guys more than everyone else.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? 馃槉

I would like detail instructions on rock faces, grass, foreground items grassy items, bushes, etc.
Thanks Derek, I鈥檓 going to work on some details this week 馃槉
Hi James, I think the above idea is good too - would be great to take particular techniques to another level. My other idea (which I recognise would be challenging to achieve) would be to offer occasional live seminar / tutorial sessions where people can work on a piece with you simultaneously and interactively. Lots of video conferencing / screen sharing technologies now exist to make this practical I think. Perhaps this could be something offered to the higher tier patrons? (Speaking entirely selfishly! 馃榾)
Yes Piers that鈥檚 definitely something that would be great to be able to offer! I鈥檓 so frustrated at the moment as working on my new house and teaching is restricting my free time and focus. However I鈥檓 determined to return to things with a new drive ASAP
would love to have more details in your drawings also, and just nature in it self, from grass to mud or ground or stones.
Yeah I love nature too, more definitely to come soon
I'm really new to drawing, and relatively new to your site. I'm sure it's difficult to balance what everyone is interested in. I love the landscapes, and the pretty basic tutorials. But I also understand that there are people here who are way beyond me, so I don't mind when there's a video that isn't really applicable to me. I just go back to the older stuff (it's great when you go back and post the colour palettes, btw). Thanks for what you do! I've drawn things I look back at and can't believe I did it! Cheers!
That鈥檚 really nice thank you Vicki! Well I鈥檓 planning a fresh batch of videos as soon as I can 馃槉
Agree with all the above. Working on detail, especially within landscape/ nature compositions would be great, Also working on a wider pallet when it come to light. I.e. shadowed trees looks great but would love to learn to paint trees in more detail.
Appreciate the input Graham, going to put the ideas into action as soon as possible
I agree. Shorter videos focusing details would be very helpful.
Great thank you James!
I was going to suggest exactly what David did. I too am pretty new to all of this, and the first drawing I did, following your tutorial looks great until you zoom in at all. Subsequent drawings where I've been using different brushes to try to make the closeup detail look better have not been nearly as easy or given nearly the same results. I would love to see some videos that tackle any tips or tricks for making my art look as good close up as they do zoomed out.
Thanks Dan, yeah I love working on details so definitely something for here at Patreon ASAP
I totally agree with David Hill鈥檚 comments.
Thanks Paul 馃槉
That seems like a great idea! I鈥檓 very new to art in general and have been slowly learning on my iPad Pro with Procreate and I find that following your tutorials help me learn a lot about colour and composition. A couple of ideas for patron only content could be for you to do more videos on how you might go into more detail on certain portions of your landscape paintings. For example, you often say that more detail could be done in a certain area if the artist felt like it, but it鈥檚 not practical for the Video length, so maybe a video on how to do detail on clouds around the Sun, or a rock, or grass......some smaller area from the main landscape video that could be expanded on. Another idea would be to do some more drawing videos for patron vs YouTube. I really liked the oak tree one you did a few weeks back, just composed of simple drawing techniques and put together make a really cool object, and I鈥檇 like to see more of that.
Hey great ideas thanks! Yeah I could definitely see those working well 馃槉
