Hey James. I’ve noticed you seem to not want to collapse a regular blend with an add blend layer. When I do that I don’t seem to lose the effect of the blend modes. Are you certain you actually lose that information? I have not see that in practice.

Yes it absolutely does, it turns the top layer merged down to the same blend mode as the underneath one. You may not notice this happening in some images, but it’s is. Try it with this image, for example merge down layer 23 (normal) with layer 21 (add) and all the details looks off because they have defaulted to the add blend mode underneath
