Just joining this conversation now. I always sign any artwork I do whether it’s a tutorial or not.. even if it’s a tutorial it has my own unique artistic input. Therefore, I’m going to sign it call me old school. That’s the way I roll. I do make it an absolute point that if I post any of this work online I credit the creator. In this case, I always credit you James. And I always attach a link. Or some other way to find the tutorial. I always attribute the original artwork to the original creator. I have been a practising artist the majority of my life. I am extremely careful about copyright. I also think it’s extremely important for artists to embrace and own their own artistic work and style.

I’m coming back to this thread after two months to post because I have to admit, it kind of made me feel bad to think that I shouldn’t be signing my work. You guys were polite about it, but I sort of lost my enthusiasm for doing the tutorials after this episode because I felt like I had done something wrong by signing my finished pieces. I credit the artists whose tutorials I follow but have always signed my work and felt proud of it. I’m hoping to get back into doing the tutorials again because it was something I really enjoyed. I don’t tell you this to make you feel bad, I just wanted to give that feedback .❤️

Sorry you felt that way and I’m glad you are back, but I definitely never said you shouldn’t. I merely expressed that I don’t even sign my 100 % original work, but that’s just me and you should do you. Youve clearly taken that as discouraging you to sign your work, but if you listen carefully I’m sure you’ll hear that we said we absolutely don’t mind and it’s up to the individual what they do. I see people posting my tutorial and not crediting me even and honestly it doesn’t really bother me, but it’s not what I would do.

I have a question about transferring Procreate artwork to canvases for wall displays. I am new to the community, so you may have already addressed that. I am looking for inexpensive ways to create wall artwork to give as gifts for my friends and family. I'd like to also know about ideal DPI for canvas transfers, and any other tips you may have. Thanks for all you do!

Great presentation. I think people should feel free to add their logo/signature to any art they create that is original. As proud as I am of the work I am doing resulting from your tutorials, I would not feel comfortable placing my name/logo on that work because it essentially belongs to you, the creator of the tutorial. I may display the work but 1) without my name on the artwork and 2) with credit to the creator of the tutorial. My goal is to learn all I can from you amazing artists about Procreate, brushes, styles, etc. and then do my own original work to which i intend to attach my name.

Yeah I think everyone should be free to do what they feel best 😊

Why don't you provide a stamp like "Inspired by James Juliet tutorial" that I can put on a painting that I sign. You deserve the credit and anyone in my community knows that I don't have the talent to do these things alone.

It’s a good idea!

I think it’s totally ok to sign it if you want. I do simply to track the year and monitor progress. I keep them in folders knowing if it’s mine or a tutorial. I don’t use social media other than something like Patreon to follow a tutorial so I’m never posting things online though I have printed some for my walls which I think is fine. After all I did draw it myself, I do tell people that I followed a tutorial to paint it. But at the end of the day it’s something created from scratch on my iPad. While following a tutorial helps immensely, the strokes, etc are indeed mine. I never claim the idea is original nor do I ever call myself an artist, I just say I like to draw. Now if I traced it completely I think that would be different. I would think it similar to l taking an art class. They always tell you to sign it. Go to Disneyland and sit in the drawing room and follow the tutorial to draw the character they are demonstrating. The Disney artist at the end tells everyone to put their signature on it as the most important mark. I don’t think there is any difference. You offer a service to teach. We learn. We grow. We do the art. Why not sign it.

I’m not disagreeing, more a comment on that I don’t sign myself

So glad I saw this, because I did wonder if there would be a copy write problem and it was a question I wanted to address

I love your tutorials James, and I use the results from that in my YouTube videos. You, of course are credited.
