MOLYNEUX: The Nobody
Part one of a reappraisal of Peter Molyneux's career - and reputation.
Originally I planned a long video on the entirety of Molyneux's career, but production realities have forced me to reassess my approach. Instead, I'm splitting the video into a series - with each part focussing on an era of Molyneux's career that helped shape his reputation.
First up is 'The Nobody', which looks at the very start of his career. A tale of perserverance, if anything, as Peter found his footing and struck gold with Populous. We end with the death of the 16-bit machines, and the precipitous leap to a new era.
Part two (released when it's done!) will focus on his work from 94-99, and his eventual departure from Bullfrog.
The graphics for this video were fun - they're linocut prints!

Thanks for another great video Ahoy. (Also interested to hear the backstory and details behind the Fable series if you do a follow up).
Yeah, it’s a crazy story when Commodore mistakes him for the wrong company and that sets him up with Amigas that launch his career. Excellent work as always!
Love to see Ahoy back to more frequent uploads 🤩 Still remember when the channel was named XboxAhoy. Oh how time have changed. But my love for your content has remained the same for 12 years. Heres to 12 more! Back to the topic. Peter Molyneux may be a loadsome. But his efforts in Fable will always make me appreciative. But I'm blessed that I got to experience Fable fresh, without hearing of his promises.
This is brilliant. The graphics, script, soundtrack and edit is on point, as per, but the subject matter is maybe my most favourite on YT. The War Stories series is special to me because it always chronicles the awful part of creative arts, and the triumph of the spirit of perseverance. Bullfrog only existed because of Molyneux’s prior failures. He made mistakes, but his story is human, and one I’m really intrigued to hear more of. Thanks
excited for the rest of the series!
Nothing screams high effort more than learning to do linocuts for a youtube documentary! Also, please please please please put the soundtrack for sale on Bandcamp!! Instant purchase for me!
I'll release a Bandcamp album once the series is complete. In the mean time, I'll upload FLACs for the benefit of patrons and add singles to streaming services.
Thank you for gracing us with this on a lovely Friday! I've always been a fan of the tracks that you've posted on Soundcloud some time ago...so seeing them here is making me giddy!
Very interesting so far. And using linocut prints for the graphics, genius (as usual lol)
Fantastic - been excitedly awaiting this!
Of all the media I've seen about Molyneux it's always been post-Fable, so it was really interesting to hear his origin! I really liked the narrative of him starting off thoroughly unspectacular and building this reputation and pressure to deliver. Keen to see the next part too!
