The Creature of Castorfield | August Update

It's the Creature of Castorfield August update!

This month we focused on more technical parts of the mystery aspect of the game. As there needs to be a lot of things that contribute to building the world, they don't necessarily need to be directly pointing towards the plot / mystery, and in fact some misdirection is great.

To give an example, a lot of the stuff at the beginning of the timeline focuses around the blizzard of 1888 (actual historical event) and that's because it's important context to understand the population numbers, the efficacy of the mine and so on. Realistically in the police documents, library and doctors notes, there would be lots of other things that happen in a year that should be there, and it would create a lot of clutter. Our timeline covers about fifty years of the towns history, so that would make for a LOT of clutter, but we want the world to feel like there's a lot to explore through and read, rather than only the important bits.

So a lot of time gets bogged down in planning, and research for the most part, where we try and find interesting things to include about the different characters that tell you small parts of a contributing story, and perhaps highlight characters that might be more important that others, without flooding the game with too many unimportant things.

We have two systems in place to help you identify when something seems to be important, the first is that you would get a little dialogue scene of the sheriff thinking to themselves about what information they just encountered, and the second is what were working on mostly this month, which is the Sheriff's diary that automatically records information that might be important for you to be able to quickly go back and refer to if you're lost, or you're coming back to the game after a little while and need a refresher.

It made the most sense to get started with this now, so I'm not back tracking so far to fill it up with information that had already been put into the game, and potentially missing stuff. I believe it's an important tool to help keep players following along when the story of the game is going to be in lots of small parts in lots of small places.

That and we have some really big unrelated news.

We are releasing a card game!

I wanted to do a cheeky little announcement in here first before posting anywhere else, for the die hard patreon supporters, so you're the first to know, but keep it our secret for now!

After the success of the collectible cards project, we want to create something with actual gameplay. so, we are working on a Waifu cardgame, where the main gameplay is drafting Waifu cards from a pile (just like making Gacha pulls!) to then build a tableau of Waifu's to try and make a strong team.

You may have caught mention on the sexy business podcast that Spooky's day job is with boardgames, so you can expect a very well designed, and produced game coming soon. We've got the background artist from Shackles of Ellswyn doing the backgrounds for the game, and a new character artist, cake (who's done some fan art for us in the past, on the collectible cards project)

Here's some pieces to get you excited!

This is not an official announcement just yet, just a sneak peek for the loyal patrons, we'll come back with much more info soon, once we have more to show off while potentially looking at Kickstarting so that we can get some nice quality upgrades.

If this sounds like something you're excited for, then put in the comments what your favourite monster girl waifu is, and maybe we'll have something inspired by that put into the game!

We're really excited to be bringing you these projects, and thanks again for following along this journey with us!
