The hobby ecosystem is fascinating. A lot of them are populated with people who have disposable incomes and are bored, so spending money is half the point. A lot of them also have a “budget” sub-niche that is ruthlessly cheap, but they just end up being gateways into very expensive obsessions.
Genuinely speaking, you should write a book on that. I'd read it.
