I be missing my girl Anne yo!🦋🌼Any similar shows you know of?
One of the most unique shows I've had the pleasure of watching. Very different from every other show in my catalog. So, so good🌺

Anime but Witch Hat Atelier is the closest thing I can think of to Anne ! The main character is around the same age and has that wonder and uniqueness about her within her world. It’s artsy, whimsical and heartwarming with its bits of drama. Only one season out yet but season 2 is already in production I believe
Gilmore Girls. Not tv shows but if you’re willing to do movies: A Little Princess, Matilda, and My Girl (1 and 2). This one is a stretch but if you’re interested in wit and like Anne’s extreme competence, Veronica Mars seasons 1-3 and movie only. Might also recommend Once Upon a Time.
“Monster: Lizzie Borden” is basically Anne going a little wacko.
Agree with everyone saying Dickinson!!! Such a great show
little house on the prairie season 1 it's a remake of the old one, season 1 is out and they are filming season 2, very simmilar to Anne with an E !
Queens gambit although its a lot darker !
Maybe I should give the show another chance… the books, esp as a Canadian from the maritimes, were a huge part of my life as a kid. Some of the changes they went with for the show were difficult to swallow. But maybe I should try watching it as its own thing rather than as an adaptation. I dk it’s hard when you just love a book so much!
I think you should. This show was all kinds of amazing.
Dickinson is not exactly the same but it’s also a period piece with a modern twist to it and very moving and bittersweet themes! I’ve always thought I’d love to see you react to it and know what your thoughts on it are 🫶
What are you missing/looking for the most? Kipo from "Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts" reminds me a lot of Anne, but it's a completely different kind of show. The most recent Jane Eyre movie is good if you're looking for a Period Piece about a woman finding her own way in a time period where many people were left behind. Sweet Land and Palm Trees in the Snow are two of my favorite films that feature strong female characters in period settings. (Two of my favorite films in general, really). I could see you really enjoying both of these.
Ay, Frank, this makes my heart happy!! Anne is such a special character and such a special show. I also miss her from time to time. Kindred spirits, all of us!
You’d love Bella Ramsey in the movie “Catherine, Called Birdy.” Delightful.
I wonder what you would think of the new “woke” Little House on the Prairie. Wonderful child actors, beautifully made, and it pissed off Megan Kelly.
We started watching the 2026 and didn't even view it as a "woke" version. Is it supposed to be? We stopped watching it because when compared to the 70s version we found it to be very slow paced and less of an emotional appeal for us. Maybe its just nostalgia from having grown up with the original.
This is a tough one... Anne with an E does stand out amidst the shows I watch too. It has a certain feel-good vibe, a certain whimsy to it, while also engaging in serious issues. A very genuine, beautiful show. The first thing that popped in my mind was Lost in Space, because although more action/science-packed and very different in milieu, it has the same feel-good and character-focused vibe to me. (Then again, maybe the show is on my mind because it has Toby Stephenson 🤭) I saw that they've also released a new version of Little House on the Prairie. I haven't seen it, but I have a feeling the vibe might be very close to Anne—maybe even with a similar modern touch of being conscious of history usually ignored in the narrative, like native people etc? 🤔 I would need to check it out. Also, people have brought up The Great here, and if were talking about the same Elle Fanning and Nicholas Holt show, then I cannot see how it could be similar to Anne with an E 😂 It's a very good show, but so different! Dark humour and sex all over the place! Alias Grace has also been brought up yet I consider it different from Anne, darker in tone and mystery-driven (but also very good).
I think you described Anna with an E so perfectly I'll take a look at some of these you mentioned Thanks
Others have already said it, but Dickinson is SO wonderful! You'll recognize many familiar faces in it too! Literally one of my favorite shows. It's basically Anne with an E but if the dialogue was written in a more modern way (intentionally) and was more for adults as opposed to teens! But it's the same vibe, and equally impactful!
Is that fucking Wiz Khalifa lol bet Just add it to my list
Little House on the Prairie-1974. Road to Avonlea, it is in the same fictional universe by author L.M. Montgomery When Calls the Heart-2014 Downton Abbey-2010 The show was far more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The Gilded Age-2022 All Creatures Great and Small-2020 Very heartwarming and humorous
Gracias gracias.
I think one of the most magical things about "AWaE" is the coming of age aspect. 💚
Amen
Another coming of age series I liked was Reservation Dogs. Its a comedy drama, and covers some serious topics but with Anne with an E being canceled right when there was indigenous representation this may be a good series to visit. Although this us set in the US not Canada.
love it
Queens gambit Mrs. Maisel
Thank you. two already on my list
I swear, Frank...somehow you tapped my brain cuz I was JUST WATCHING Anne With an E and thinking how fun your reactions were! Literally was just missing this exact thing the other day. Like 3 days ago? Ish? Wild. Truly!
This is not the first occasion that I think the universe has shown me that our minds are somehow linked. Whatever blessings that are coming to both our way because of that link. I am openly accepting it
The Queen's Gambit - 100% Alias Grace The Tudors Dickinson Call the Midwife (I have trouble watching this show now thanks to C-PTSD but before the event that caused the issue I very much enjoyed the show.)
The Queen's Gambit has that coming of age aspect to it + so much more.
aww im literally rewatching your anne reactions rn. this show is one of a kind
Wonderful kind. What a coincidence
"Anne with an E" is such a unique show. You may be better looking for films that are similar. Here are some series, though, that are not exactly like it but share some similarities: ‼️"Dickinson" - you would love this!! ‼️"The Great" is an absolute treasure -- so irreverent *"The Gilded Age" *"Bridgerton" *"Alias Grace" *"The Tudors" *"Turn" *"The Queen's Gambit" *"Victoria" *"Pride & Prejudice" BBC miniseries
Taking notes
I’m also always missing Anne, such a great show and such a fun character. I just started watching Dickinson (only 2 eps in so take it with a grain of salt)- it’s on Apple TV, it’s a period piece that feels very modern at the same time but Emily’s character kind of reminds me of Anne with how outspoken she is and she’s such a free spirit. She’s very bold and fun and truly wants to live her life in her way! 🩶
I LOVE "Dickinson"!!!
Oh - and for a Stephen King-type protagonist you'll have Mike Flanagan's Carrie with 8 eps dropping on October 7th.
I'm already on that. Can't wait
Thanks for asking, Frank. I'm so glad you enjoyed this. My suggestions are: -My Lady Jane -The Great -Dickinson -The Queen's Gambit
I haven't seen the 1st one but I enthusiastically second ALL of the others
Actually yes!! New show I think on Netflix called "my brilliant career"
I'll look this up Thanks
Anne's such a unique personality. Poldark is another one with a phenomenal cast with a lot of the same really well handled critiques of class warfare & racism.
I completely agree, M. Excellent show in all respects.
Ya know, this is kinda a crazy swing but there’s a lot of feel good, secretly super deep, “kids” shows I think you’d really like. These are animated shows and not period pieces like Anne but eh. Feel good vibe and aimed at teens. And they do well algorithm wise on YT! The 2018 She-Ra for one. It’s not on Netflix anymore so you have to find a copy 🏴☠️ I’ve always described it as ATLA but gayer haha 😂 and!! This is the one that has the voice actress of Vee from Orange is the new black as one of the main antagonists and she is amaaaazing. And Steven Universe, but that one’s harder to get to “the good stuff” cus the first season is kind of slow. But by the end it’s like the most profound shit you’ve ever seen lol. And! It’s newer, the owl house is super fun and the main character has a very similar vibe to Anne in her unique energy and view of the world.
I love She-Ra so much its awesome
Not super similar, but Downton Abbey is a great period piece
yess on my list
