Weekly Question: What’s one thing your parents or guardians constantly nagged you about?
- My mother did not like my beard for years🤣 She would damn near bribe me to shave it when I was in high school. My dad was always clean-shaven with a little mustache, so I guess maybe that was the standard. I guess there was maybe some respectability politics attached to that, ya know. Clean-shaven = neat = good person. She got tired of asking after years of me not budging.

My mam always prefers my hair short short. Like pixie short. I cut it like that when I was about 16 and kept it that way for almost 10 years. Every time I'd mention growing it out she'd always say how the short hair really suits me and it looks much better etc etc. For the past few years I've had it bob length and I love it. Then for some unknown reason I decided to cut it all off last Oct. I hated it straight away. It didn't feel like me at all. I started growing it out again the next day! And my mam still insists the short hair suits me better even though most other people loved the bob too. It's finally grown out now and I'm loving it again. Never cutting it that short again until I'm at least 60! 😄
Holy crap Frank. I have been navigating my separation, moving out into my own apartment for the past month and I've barely been around. What's happening here - BSG!!! Omfg. This past year you have been crossing off all my favourite series! Lately my mom can't stop telling me to stop stressing. That everything will work out in the end. I wish I had her optimism, but I don't think she understands how much harder our generation has to work to achieve the same things our parents were able to do at the ages we are now. Sooo tough.
I'm wishing you all the best with this new journey I totally feel that. I'll take the optimism any day rather than someone being negative in my ear

ok before I tell this traumatizing-ass-sounding story, just know we're ALL GOOD NOW! My family was very much a congregating family, where it was considered weird/notable to be off doing your own thing in yr room instead of hanging out w/everyone But every week of high school, on Wednesday nights, I used to try and sneak upstairs and watch Dawson's Creek on the tiny b/w antenna tv, since there was a gay character (a huge deal then), and I knew my dad wouldn't brook that. Hard to sneak in a tiny house, and my dad would yell YEAH GO PUT ON YOUR DRESS AND WATCH DAWSON'S CREEK as I tip-toed in vain lmao Anyway I'm a trans woman--so I did in fact go put on my dress. That settled that! (No it did not, I now nag him about this relentlessly :-D for fun)

ahhh Return of the King! looking forward to that one but also a little sad that it will all be over. My parents used to complain about my tattoos all the time, but I guess I eventually got too many of them that they realized there was no point. 😁
