Anybody watching LANTERNS?
I'm not gonna lie, I had my doubts, but after watching that first episode, I'm sold!🔥 I mean, the idea of intergalactic cops/heros being grounded on Earth felt off. But I'll take great character-driven storytelling over all the pointless superhero fireworks any day. The True Detective murder mystery vibe that the show is giving - I ate that shit up! Can't wait for more. I love both characters and how flawed they are in their own ways, but also have so much integrity when it comes to this Lantern shit! Their banter and chemistry with each other is off the charts too. Highly recommend🙏🏾

True Detective vibes, you say? Hmmmm...I'm normally not wild about the superhero genre (generally... there's definitely exceptions)... but you're peaking my interest.
We just watched it last night. I have to say that opening scene was quite disturbing seeing a father punish his son by putting an apple on his head and then pulls a William Tell with a loaded firearm. Plus seeing a vertical line of prior bullet holes in the garage door behind him, much like a child's height chart, implies it was a regular occurrence between them. Plus John seems to have internalized this behavior for so long, he doesn't see anything wrong with it as an adult. I wasn't sure I wanted to watch it any further, but I did despite seeing Hal teaching John through some less-than-conventional methods. What puzzles me is that despite Hal being assigned as John's mentor, the two Lanterns do not seem to get along, due to a combination of their different views on what it means to be a Lantern...with Hal resenting that John is being groomed as his replacement, and John arrogantly believing that he is already better at the job than Hal is. Plus Hal states that he "didn't interview" for the power of the ring, John counters that Hal should have had to, considering the power he now wields. I did like the way Hal outs the alien imposter by pointing out the gaps in his knowledge of commonly known bits of trivia that any humans could answer and the alien fails to show any racial bigotry that would be characteristic of a white Redneck from Nebraska. Did not expect that pilot ending at all!!
*spoilers* Dunno what it is about dynamic duos this year, but this is already shaping up to be my favorite hyperfixation this year since A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms. I also never watched Dutton Ranch or Yellowstone, but I feel loke, guaging from the interaction in the ranch, this show will be using the concept in a very critical lense
I agree
I LOVE IT!!! THE FIRST EPISODE WAS INCREDIBLE
So good
We are!!!
Hell yeah. Reaction out already?
I'm going to give it a go. Aaron Pierre is amazing. I saw him a couple of months ago at The Old Vic in One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest and he (alongside Giles and Jason of original West End Hamilton cast) was phenomenal. I mean it. Plus, he's from my home town, gotta support the representation.
oh That's awesome
I liked it, I dont know anything about green lantern and never watched the movie but im locked in for the DCU
That's all good. This is a good place to start for newcomers
Yes, just watched the first episode Monday night! It was really good, I’m excited for the season! Hal and John are so well acted and interesting to watch!
Yes indeed. Their Dynamic is so fun
I heard it was really good so I’m gonna try and watch it tonight. Is it tied into this new DC universe?
Yes it is
Agree, lots of fun. Damon Lindelof knows how to do this kinda thing--look at what he did with Watchmen. And Kyle Chandler is delightful 100% of the time.
Yes indeed
YES! It was awesome. It gave me Fargo and True Detective vibes. Which makes some sense. It is in Nebraska and the guy(s) behind at least that first season of TD are involved with this. Edit: Maybe he isn't. I don't know where my SO heard that he was and I looked it up and all I found was an article saying that Lanterns would have a similar feel. But I couldn't read it because it wanted me to remove ad blockers and that is untrustworthy.
One of the TD executive producers is involved, but not the creatives.
Co-created by Damon Lindelof who created Lost, The Leftovers and Watchmen! 😊
I'm sold
