It’s really wild how many mega careers were launched from this show. Who would have thought Chris Pratt would be a Marvel superhero when this came out?
Your observation of the contractors have no lines is an astute one- it’s a different pay scale for someone with even one line vs no lines.
1:00:13 "shiiii boy MULTIPLE RIDES" lmaooooooooooooo
I could not stand The Office when I first checked it out. I watched maybe two episodes and then dropped it because Michael Scott was literally the worst. Then my almost bf at the time begged me to give it another go. I enjoyed it after season 1, it is funny. Humor changes like that. We grow out of things and into others. I can't watch Fraiser, HIMYM, or even Friends now. I'm an adult now, and can better understand the toxicity and racism and truly tone deaf jokes. Even Amy this episode bugged me and so did Aziz. Amy is that level of racist that isn't blatant but also just unaware and ignorant. She reminded me of one of my old bosses. He radioed everyone at work asking if anyone could speak Spanish. I didn't respond because I cannot, and then he signaled me out asking if I could come up to the counter and talk to someone. Even after that language clarification he still would say Hola to me on occasion. It is irritating. I'd have dropped this as well if my bf hadn't wanted to show it to me and I'm glad he did, this will be my first rewatch of it though. Even It's Always Sunny and Archer, my favorite shows, I had to come back to yrs after I first checked them out. That's a humor I grew into. I have listened to a few episodes of her podcast but stopped due to outside factors. Her Aubrey Plaza episode was a good one. The only critique I have for it is her not writing the friends and/or family's question down word for word for her guests. Like the daughter of the author. The daughter wanted Amy to ask her mom if she thought she, the mom, was a hypocrite regarding her profession. That is not at all what Amy asked and that bugged me. I was so looking forward to the answer and I imagine the daughter had to have been offended that her question was so blatantly adjusted. I do understand though that this is her first podcast, she has room for errors and growth. The one episode with one of her fellow SNL buddies, Seth Meyers? I laughed so hard. Anyways, enjoying your reactions as usual. Thank you Frank. Your insight is appreciated.
Ugh I love this show, always makes me feel happy. It’s so Good
As a government worker, I do relate to so many things in this show. I probably still have my optimism like Leslie, but the last year has for sure dampened a lot of my pride at work. But as long as I get the chance to respond to someone in my community and help them with their claim/issue, I will never stop. No orange can make me lose faith in my neighbors or not want to show up. Leslie is an inspiration there!
Thank you soooo much for reacting to parks! You’re the first reactor that I’ve ever seen react to Tom’s sleeze the way I did in this ep
I started Parks and Rec just recently, I'm now in season 6 and I love it so much, and I'm so happy that you're reacting to it :)
This show was initially intended to be like an Office spin-off, so you picking up Leslie's Michael Scott vibes is hitting the nail on the head. Luckily, this show finds its own footing (the Office is funny but it can be insufferable to watch Michael in particular at times). Won't say more than that, excited to watch you experience this, even though it feels SO different watching in today's political landscape compared to when it aired
I used to work for Parks and Recreation in my city, this show is relatable. Leslie Knope is also a role model and someone I’ve been told I’m similar to…I’m going to take it as a compliment. I cannot wait for you to discover all the wonderful characters of Pawnee!
I truly tried with Amy’s pod but couldn’t get into it. It’s good like waffles but I’m more breakfast sausage.
The Pawnee murals are maybe the most American thing ever. 😶
They “twisted him to death.” Lord, I had forgotten about the history of Pawnee.
Omg seeing Veep actors before they were in Veep!!
Also a sweet reminder of before I disliked Chris Pratt as a person. 😀
This is when Aubrey Plaza invented ennui. 😬
Rejoining for Parks and Rec. A comfort show for me, and a reminder of optimism.
This show was so optimistic. “People caring loudly at me.” 💕
my absolute comfort show!! 🥰 I never rewatch season 1 usually so it'll be interesting to see it again! hope you continue!!
Got to see the reveal of each mural.
Parks and Rec aged weirdly about government 😅
Obama was president and the future seemed doable. 😶
You’ll hear this I’m sure a lot through the series. S1 is the worst season and it only gets better and better as the show goes and they figure out their footing with the characters! I hope you love this 🧡
Good thing its only 6 episodes. Then on to season 2. I still found some stuff to like here
I have never seen this but knew it would be funny. I love getting to hear people laugh. I love Nick Offerman though.
Love his presence\
Omg I'm so happy you're watching this and I was even happier to hear that you listen to Amy's podcast. People diss on the first season but I think it's good. Ofc it gets better but I still love these episodes. :)
Oh and idk if anyone has said this but Parks was created by the same guy who did the good place, Mike Schur. His episode of amy's podcast is so good.
Never thought I'd be watching this show again....but why not. I remember it being an awesome mockumentary and I'm back for more laughter and see your reactions. Plus an awesome cast portraying dysfunctional relationships, all the satire and breaking the 4th wall is absolutely great. My friend from childhood who's lifetime work was in actual parks and recreation and developing programs, could not believe they made a TV show. We would sometimes watch together and just get silly with laughter.
That would be so fun to watch with someone with actual insight
I was born in Indiana and went to college there, come from a long line of Hoosiers. A lot of the fun goofy Indiana stuff makes me smile on this show. Just Ron’s reaction to his Bobby Knight poster makes me laugh 😂
Leslie’s unwavering positivity is something I actually admire. Of course they frequently show her in an unflattering or embarrassing light and she’s shown to be extremely naive a lot of times, but tbh I feel like Leslie is such a great demonstration of how your life can improve if you have a good attitude and reach for what you want. It’s also not totally clear in these early episodes because they focus more on how goofy she is, but Leslie is also an EXTREMELY driven and competent worker, which is why she has her job. She’s really running the whole department by herself most of the time, since Ron doesn’t believe in the government doing anything 😅
LORD I forgot about Season 1 Leslie shenanigans 😂😂😂 no spoilers saying nothing more... and April / Aubrey Plaza looks so young! Thanks for mentioning her and Amy Poehler podcast will have to check that out When she says rule 1 stay on message with the media and rule 2 stay on message, really made me think of some commentary I saw around Mamdani (I'm not from US) and people highlighting at the most basic level he was able to stay on message unlike so many politicians!
Yeah Aubrey Plaza looks like a baby here lol Her energy is just so based for real, he's good at that. He doesn't get tangled with all the nonsense
This is one of my comfort shows, Leslie's positivity is my favorite part. I always feel so much better after watching a few episodes. A rewatch was due!
shes so on point
This show ran from 2009 - 2015, so the political landscape was quite different. Like a totally different universe. I miss it.
real
I think you're correct about Nick Offerman and the video. He's def a lefty IRL. I adore him as a human being.
He's so solid
It'll be refreshing to watch people in government who actually care, even if they are fictional. 🙃 💞 Leslie Knope 💞
Amen to that
This show was Aubrey Plaza’s big break, and not only is Nick Offerman (actor who plays Ron Swanson, boss with the mustache) the guy you mentioned, but he’s also Bill of Bill and Frank from The Last of Us. I was obsessed with this show when it was airing. I even (controversial opinion) liked it more than The Office. Crazy but this show gets even better after season 1. I’m excited to rewatch with you, it’s been years since I’ve seen it.
Then I think it's definitely this one Aubrey was talking about in the podcast He played an excellent Frank, amazing episode It's subjective, Val thinks the Office is one of the funniest things ever, but to me??, yeaaaah no
