https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3r0Jx4d1xc&list=RDk3r0Jx4d1xc&start_radio=1 sounds from here please, wtf. primarily the stutter and stereo control
Ive set my drums on ext.out because it sound better than main, maybe I'm a noob but it doesnt get recorded when I export the Master? How can I get them in?
would love to hear more about how you make subs and how you process your bass. What layers do you include above subs to make it sound full? How do you give your subs more oomph and whatnot. thanks!
I would like to get an detailed look into how you design your textures and atmospheres ambient stuff . like in stealing fire and stuff .. its so intersting . Could you do a video on that ? and also about live performance . How to effectively do a live gig with a dubstep, jump up , reese style tracks but also include performance rather than only playing the track .
Maybe to show how you make hi hat and cymbal samples?? Or how to go about making a certain bass sound or what sounds you would use when
How to make atmospheres would be sick
I'd actually love a little bit of insight with your approach to music theory and you chord choices/melody writing approach. Ive always been a big fan of your writing in general.
VR! You did a video with Cymatics long ago and said you would make a whole song out of 808s. I think it would make a cool video. Please keep inspiring everyone, music related or not. You're a legend for what you do.
i think id be cool if you can make chodegang presets, Thank you Have a beautiful day
Hola VR! If you’re still taking ideas: It would be cool to see how you mix a track with a lead EDM vocal and great a chopped vox for the drop doing your thing! It’d be so cool. 😎 thanks again. Have a beautiful day.
I want to to know when to use certain presets. Like what a sustain is used for or when it's a good idea to use a pad. I need to understand the basics of presets. Please
One about how you assembled the Animal Crossing vocals from just the starting syllables!! I found the original samples but when trying it myself, it was kinda choppy
Hi! I would love it if you could keep going the video series like the sidechain video! I am really interested in stereo image! How to place your different layer in the spectrum as well as mixing it!
How to make fat midrange basses for like cyberpunk?
It would be cool to see layering sounds for fuller drops, like what the thought process is for layering backing elements to make things interesting and full. And maybe some info about making sounds with good phase and zero crossing to produce good samples.
Perhaps you could walk us through how you alter your approach when producing DnB compared to dubstep
hi virtual riot! massive fan here and have followed you for a very long time. Knowing your a master of sound design I would be very interested in seeing you replicate some of the sounds from midnight tyrannosaurus, such as the wet basses in his track kings of the deep. i have never found any tutorial really coming close to replicating it precisely but if anyone can, its you and i would be intrigued.
make a song from start to finish :)
Hey VR, I would love it if you did a walkthrough of one of your songs. You obviously wouldn’t be able to include project files but it would be awesome to see your creative process in a song you’ve made. Your latest album rocks by the way.
Second request - sorry! I really struggle with understanding the differences between major genres like Dubstep, Riddim, Midtempo, Jungle, DnB...it would be nice to get an overview of what rhythmically and melodically makes each genre what it is. I think it would help tremendously when it comes to making music.
achieving loudness without clipping, or if clipping in certain instances is okay
I think something that might be really interesting is how you tackle creativity. Especially when you have a tight schedule with shows traveling etc. or just day to day life a lot of people probably struggle with exhaustion and the feeling that you "must" create something now that you finally have time for it - which at least for me is a total buzzkill. How do you deal with that kind of self expectations and creativity "on command". Maybe that could also include techniques and ideas that you use to inspire yourself to create interesting and unique music. I think that would be a little different topic for a change, but maybe even more interesting than the usual more technical videos. (If that's even possible lol.)
This. I think a lot of people struggle so much with this and not a lot of people speak on it
I' d really be interested in seeing how u balance ur workflow with daily life/ distractions like how u map ur day out and stuffand finding inspiration?
I’d love to know how you process your vocals. There’s some in your HBD3 pack that sound deep and robotic like
I really really love "Raven" and would equally love a breakdown of it. Especially the main bass. Muchas thanks for what you do!
Would love to know how to make clean spectral sounds like in "Jungundra" by Skrillex and some moments in Au5's new song "Heat". Also would love to learn how to morph sounds together without spending $300 on Morph 3.
Seconded!!
SIBBASS & MIDRANGE - If I have multiple bass sounds in a drop—each with their own pitch movement and wobble—how do you get the sub to follow that same movement accurately? Some of the midrange sounds I make are pretty intricate, and it’s tough to get a separate sub to pitch and move in sync without it sounding “disconnected” across 5 different drop section bass sounds. How do you get you sub even across the whole track, entirely separate and mimic the movement as best or each sound has a sub to it already in say Serum. 🙏
Can you do a song from start using only Phase Plant?
Show us your approach to mastering a finished mixed track! There's so much vague information on the topic everywhere, and it would be dope to have a clear idea of what exactly it is and what kind of mindset you should have when tackling it.
Thx for the most amazing video again! Will you explain why you choose Ableton OTT Reduce Ambience setting in almost every Post FX Group? It's so subtle. I don't understand the affect it has down your chains.
I think a crucial tutorial would be "simple way to turn your 8,16,32 bar loop region into a track" (i.e. the basics of arrangement) Now this is a rabbit hole of a topic, but I think we would all love if you could share tips for people to learn to finish projects! e.g. Intro, Drop, Verse, Drop2, Breakdown, Drop3 etc? Thank you so much for the innumerable tutorials, knowledge and inspo!!!!!
a tutorial on how to make your drops louder than the rest of the song like you usually do
I am running into the same issue of using bass samples that already have a sub and in order to avoid having different subs playing at different levels, I cut them out with an EQ, but when I add my own sub, they don't mix well together. I would love to see a video where you explain how to solve this issue.
You should try using FL studio for a video
Honestly man, I would LOVE a tutorial on how to make that very Noisia sort of vocal lead that you used at the last drop of Damage ft. Shaq! A whole breakdown of the track sound design with maybe a cheeky sample/preset pack would be a super early Christmas present! Love what you do so much <3
Honestly and in depth mixing video would be amazing. Your tracks seem to have a different shine to others.
another color bass monolith thing pleasee TT I love the way you make the stuff and I am currently learning from that..more of random motive and rhythmic stuffs that can be easily made in Ableton
How you made those cursed EQ patterns
Would really love to see another bass design video, showing us how you make wubs and growls that can fit into more genres than just dubstep - especially using Serum 2
I would love to hear your feedback on submitted fan songs.
I would be super interested in Mixing. 1. Stereo Field Like how I can place sounds in the stereo field with intention. How I achieve a balanced stereo field in my song and KEEP IT MONO COMPATIBLE FOR CLUB SYSTEMS. Wich techniques are the best for that and how to combine them. How to deal with drums vs. sounds. 2. Dynamic and Loudness How to get louder and also keep (maybe it's just an illusion) of dynamics. Also how to treat freq spectrum and mix sounds in context of others, with the goal of loudness in mind, without making the sounds lifeless and grey. Keep everything vibrant and tasteful while archiving these goals. Love you VR and big hugs to the community. See ya
Could you possibly do a breakdown on your rocket launch set starter because that shit was cool or maybe even the intro to the simulation album i would fucking love to learn and see how you go about sound designing sounds like that
Can you do a tutorial on glitchy Mechanical robotic impact full Transformers type style of sound designing?
Your process for coming up with and creating tracks. I remember you did the track from scratch episode, but learning how you come up with ideas or how you overcome blocks or how you work to finish a track you've started would, I think, be immensely helpful
would love to see a track breakdown of any of the collaborations on the new Skrillex album you worked on
I would definitely like more advice on production techniques, especially how to go about mixing as you produce, arrangement, and how to go about sound selection. An updated and more in depth song from scratch would be awesome or a breakdown from some of the songs in stealing fire (or going to back like the Save Yourself EP). As people mentioned, a mixdown and mastering would be super awesome to see! On a completely different note I would love to hear about your branding, and more of the business end. Would like to hear how you came up with your name, how you go about selecting your artwork for your EPs and Albums. A dive into the importance of consistency and how you push yourself to keep going. Anything related to mental health and your journey on sobriety. Love you Brother!! Always excited to hear from yah!
Keeping drums at and below 0dB, including the tracks and buss.
Spectral compression and other spectral processing tools and possibilities to use them for
Id love for you to talk about your ideas surrounding call and response! Like, how do you go about arranging your collection of sounds in a song, maybe even how you go about going from point A, to B, to C, etc. That with some track breakdowns where maybe you give us some examples of how youre thinking and how the process is maybe varied for you, I think would be really cool and would give us such a great insight into your musical mind!
Project breakdowns mostly :)
Maybe how to edit and treat vocals and others things generally on that topic
Iteration (Interlude) sound design, project breakdown
Hey VR hope you're doing good, i thought about this question and i would love to see how you create these typical FM Riddim Basses (in Serum with maybe stock wavetables/ or how to make wavetables for these kind of sounds) like in your track "Rivals" as well as of course some square4 would be cool too. I would also appreciate if you'd make a video on these bleepy sounds (idk what to call them) which could be found in Kompany's "Tax Evasion". I know I am asking too much.....
Using synths normally used for edm/dubstep for other genres like alternative, r&b, pop, etc. not sure if that has been done or not
Generator for making down bass's would be dope
Cursed EQ Rack 🙏 🔥
It would be awesome if you could get into some of your arrangement techniques.
more bass sound design in serum please :) some bass sounds you wouldn't typically make. miss the slam sound request sheet :) 🦆 IYKYK
how did you make that automated animated proQ3 video
Some mixing stuff. How do you mix your tracks/ groups/ sidechain Maybe you got some formula, that you put in every track (for example kclip on every group) and why are you putting this. Mono/ stereo processing (Sound panorama)
Would love to see another track from scratch video or possibly a project breakdown. Would be keen to see some of the sound design techniques/approaches to a track like Chroma
I would also like to see some more other/ new approaches with XLN’s Life plugin with the new update? Generally speaking tho u usually hit the nail on the head with topics you choose!
How about something dedicated to saw stack processing? I know you've gone over it in streams, but a dedicated video on how to do the massive, full density type simple sounding saw plucks like from "In My Head" would be awesome.
Some sound design with NI Reaktor Form?
Making more interesting chords !
Discuss how you work with VJ Neurite - to what extent do you contribute to the art direction yourself, how do you both work together to help each-other out, before or during a show, etc. Are you guys always in constant communication during shows, or is it all about prep work? Does she always know what to expect out of your sets, or do you ever just throw a complete curveball at her?
Make a song from scratch.
I’d like to see one on how you made the bass synth’s for “while you were sleeping VIP” and “Neon angel VIP” They’re so good!!!
If not then maybe your approach to djing live
anything not music related. e.g. have you tried astral projection. any psi abilities now or when you were younger. any unusual sightings? bored w sex yet? with life? super powers. why are we here? what will humanity / earth be like in 50 yrs? 100? 1000?
break down of notable and cool sounds used in Stealing Ffire album
Mixing, Mastering, How to get the final song clean, loud. What you need to take care of in production for cleanliness etc. Please im desperate with this topic ),:
+1 :)
You're workflow, key commands you use the most, Ableton tricks you use.
Your Production Tricks, you use in your Tracks, or maybe Complex Bass design with Serum (2)
i hate time zones but imagine virtual riot uptempo tho i do want a tut on song ideas
a video about the plugin Transit by BabyAudio !
Recreating crusty bass stabs that appear in many drum and bass tunes on the first beat of a measure, i.e., Spor - Aztec etc.
Bass design from your album would be great! :)
some videos making a track form scratch
How you do a "source jam", i.e. workflow for generating sounds for your sample packs or otherwise useable assets for future songs, and how you organize all the files
So much stuff to request... - storytelling in your tracks and composing process (fundamentals to build at first, next steps in the composition, where randomness in this process becomes a good friend...) - how do you prepare your DJ sets (organizing stems, track order based on a strategy, working with Vjing) - computer organization to keep focus and right to the point when comes an idea or a need Thanks for all VR 🫶🏻🤘🏻
a breakdown of your recreation of Kyoto >>
I would like to see your approach on a mixing/mastering as it relates to sidechaining methods, phasing issues, stereo imaging, and gain staging. Your videos are insane when it comes to sound design and would like to see you're approach when you have many track files overlapping/layered when you have such complex sound design and ear candies.
+1
Cursed EQs breakdown would send me
Try to make something on bandlabs
lmao
I’d love to see more of your mastering process especially since you just helped master skillex’s album
yess
My biggest struggle right now is getting a quality mix. Would love to see how you approach your mixdowns.
+1
"Heavy Bass Design 2 | Bass design Breakdown". In this video, you would show us how you did the bass design for your sample pack and show us the cool project files like "super cool new patches [triplet land]".
make a video with other daw lol, like bitwigstudio
General song writing would be awesome. I always seem to get stuck. Especially when it comes to theory wise. I always play a weird bass line that doesn’t seem to be in any particular key then I can’t find the right chords
How to make VR style Dubstep or Future Bass!
SugarRush breakdown
Virtual Riot using FL Studio would be amazing.
OMG YES!
I’d love to see you delve deeper into how you make your chord progressions and melodies 😊
simple idea into complete track. How to take chords into a complete track. Making good chords. I try and fail every time at this. Even using chtulu or ableton stacks or what ever i fail at it and can NEVER get what i hear in my head.
A few people have mentioned mixing and mastering, I would love to dive into this process a little deeper and learn some creative new ways to add dynamic changes and evolving textures through different types of modulation in the stereo image, volume, dynamic eq, evolving patches, separate processing for mid/side and multiband etc.
Maybe a Studio Room Tour Video as well 😮😇
Can you do an ableton tutorial for people who want to switch daws?
Mastering! How do you go about mastering a new song?
+1
How to make electro funk. Using swings and live instruments
Atmos + pad stuff!!!! Also whatever YOU are thinking. The kinds of musical questions you ask are lightyears ahead of mine, and I like seeing into the future :) You're like a monk to my (and many other's) disciple - what kinds of things are you discovering so deep into your craft?
The virtual riot atmosphere sample pack is amazing! Would love to know how you made them
Working with Ableton Collision!
Creating fills in drops. Bass fills, drum fills, etc…
Something I've wanted to learn for a while is when designing a sound, how do you choose one waveform over the other? Where do you start when you have an ideal sound in mind, and what steps do you take to get there?
As a guitarist myself, I enjoy metal music. However, there’s such a mainstream way to record your electric guitar, run it through a virtual amp, basic post processing (eq/comp), maybe double or quad track it (2/4 takes for stereo walling effect), and that is that. I’ve always wondered how far you could push that process. I would love to see a video of you jamming some chunky bar chords and then putting modern metal mixes to shame with your creative post processing ideas!
So far the comments I second are the ones for breakdowns of any of the tracks from the Stealing Fire album, as well as BassTi's request for more streams (I certainly learn the most from streams myself). I also like heccsagone's request for "pretty" sound design (especially the part about the plucks from the Lost It VIP melodic drop) and Justin Moore's request about organic sound modelling.
A Serum 2 Color Bass Patch could be cool. Like, just using serum 2 for color bass, if you know what I mean.
Organic sound modeling, like synthesizing a water drop, or like your bird calls and wildlife in Stealing Fire, that's the coolest thing :)
If it’s on the table, I’d love to see how some of the bass sounds on stealing fire were designed. No particular ones in mind, I’d be happy to see any that you pick 😄
how to make pretty sounds and progressions, like advanced evolving pads, plucks with a lot of fx and crazy stuff going on like in Embark and the second drop of Lost It VIP, and pretty background elements like in Darkest Night, anything pretty sounding!! luv u, biggest inspiration <3
also, more streams again :)
A drop rhythm/ drop flow video would be perfect! Or how you prep tunes for a live set!
Here's a suggestion you probably weren't expecting, but maybe next time you go play a show you could vlog it? Thought it would be cool to see the interaction you have with your team/fans and see everything that goes into a VR show. :)
Remaking one of your own previously released songs on video. Or perhaps someone else’s song that you like?🤷
Serum 2 heavy bass shots Sound design
Bus Mixing/Mastering, methods on how to make drums extremely snappy
Breakdown video of literally any track on ur album PLEASEEEEE
I'm still waiting to hear if you managed to extract the stems from Dog Fight. In general, I'd really like to know how you find, select and record the vocal lines for your tracks with actors and voice actors)
I’ve been going through projects and haven’t found it yet but I’ve found a few others!! Currently collecting stems from those to put up a stem-dump for all supporters :)
Song start to finish!
Spec Ops tutorial pls 🙏
Layering sound and making your mix sound full
Using a random sample, loop, sound etc to make an entire song out of, like you did in the Andrew Huang 4 producers vid.
Full breakdown of 1 song on Stealing Fire (pls make it 4 hours long)
I’ve played around with trying to make a call and response rack. Using a similar concepts to the random bass generators you’ve previously done but expand on it with stutters and patterns. (I’ve tried and failed this concept multiple times)
Maybe trying to recreate some interesting dubstep sounds like the Leotrix Hive bounce twok :) wäre Mega mehr über solche Sounds was zu lernen ^w^
Oooo maybe the sound design for dino killer or other song breakdowns like that?
Try FL Studio for sound design! It would be insane to see you sound design in a daw outside your comfort zone Also, I used fl studio so it would be super fun to watch
A video about basic sound profiles. It would go over principles on how to make every type of synth sound -Pluck -Lead -Chord -Pad -Sustain bass -Pluck bass -Dubstep growl -Riddim bass -Tearout Gun -Dubstep sustain -Back FX -Impact -Percussion -others you may think of Would probably be a longer video, but very very useful for those who may be struggling with certain sounds (I’m good with dubstep sounds, but I struggle with good intro leads)
Ooh love the organization here! Yeah, just a good 101 fundamentals of EDM sound design rapid fire video would be cool.
Imagine we could see a VR mixdown guys. Just imagine
+1
Your videos always seem to line up right for me, so off the bat, just keep it flowing. For the sake of the request how about an outdoor adventure gathering sounds from a walk? Similar to the ones you did with the water bottle and pan
“I Took 1 Second From EVERY Fan Submission and Made a Drop”
Ways to speed up your workflow when it comes to songwriting and mixing?
A VR Advanced Guide to Mastering! Plugins, Gain-Staging, Routing, etc
+1
I think one that would be interesting would be how to use certain sounds arrangement wise. Like how you think about call and response basically in different song sections.
how to make snare in under 2 years...
Could you make a random sound generator for shimmering pads
Serum 2 Growl design, or putting old Massive wavetables in S2 👀👀
I would love to see a video about the structure of a dubstep song from start to finish
Studio time s2ep3 was great for this, but I agree I would also like to see some more bottom up production stuff 🤘
