Archein of Wisdom. Part 1.

Now available to patrons; we look at how overlapping brushwork and airbrushing can create realistic armoured surfaces quickly. Even if you aren't painting red armour, this technique can be employed on any hard surface.

More lesson tiers will be opening on the 2nd. Patrons will have the first chance to change tier. More details to follow.

You can find all of Raldoron's tutorials here.

I mean of course the hue between the champion model and Raldoron. So a side by side image would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately Raldoron is with his new owner and I will not be able to show the two side by side.

Placing the two miniatures next to each other how different is the overall red tone? Wanting to try out one of the schemes and still undecided.

There are minimal variations due to the sculpts, but you'd have to be under ideal lighting conidtions to notice the difference. Basing, weathering and decals help tie together the paint job.

Great video. You chose not to gloss varnish before using the oil pin wash on this guy, although you did gloss varnish on the last marine I saw you do it for. Can I ask what helps you decide whether to or not?

A gloss varnish will alter the underlying hues, compressing them. After airbrushing I will decide whether the scheme has been pushed far enough with contrasting hues, or if the gloss will compress it too much. With this colour recipe, I felt that the varnish would take too much away. Another reason is that these tutorials are to demonstrate an array of techniques and scheme. This red is different from the Champion tutorial produced at the start of the year.
