Decisions regarding the Voice Acting
What's up, guys!
Today we came to bring you some news regarding Voice Acting.
It's been a while since the last post, so we decided to bring you a new development report to update you on the current state of development.
The reason for our brief absence is that we decided to focus on development so we have something more solid to show you.
In this regard, we decided to follow some guidelines regarding Voice Acting:
We chose to dub only in English, and we have good reasons for that:
We use AI to do the voice acting (unfortunately, we wouldn't have the necessary budget to do it with real voice actors, since we're a small studio), and when we carried out tests, we realized that the AI is much more mature when it comes to dubbing in English.
Unfortunately, the dubbing in Portuguese (the other language we currently support) still has some intonation and accent problems, so it doesn't sound natural.
The advantage of this decision is that we cut the number of lines of text in half, from something around 10,000 to something around 5,000. This will speed up our work a lot.
Even if the player chooses the Portuguese language, he'll hear the English voice acting, applying to this and all other languages that may be added to the game in the future. The lines of text referring to the characters' thoughts will not be voiced:
We made this decision because we understand that, this way, things will be more similar to how things are in real life.
We'll hear the voice acting of the lines of dialogue referring to conversations between characters, but the thoughts will only be displayed as text, so you'll interpret the characters' thoughts only inside your head, as if it were a thought in real life.
This decision also has the advantage of slightly reducing the lines of text that we'll need to dub, which will result in faster delivery of the final result. Because of this, things like the Main Character's interaction with the objects he investigates during Free Roaming will not be voiced.
PS: We don't completely rule out dubbing in other languages in the future, as by then AI dubbing may mature enough for us to be able to do good voice acting in other languages, but for now we'll just focus on dubbing in English.
A little more about our current progress:
In addition to the guidelines we decided on above, we have made some progress in other ways.
At the moment, we've already decided which voices will be used for most of the game's characters, except for some secondary characters such as some bar customers, Thomas and characters related to his story.
Some scenes are already done, but we're still working out some details that need to be corrected before showing you the result. Once these other scenes are 100% done, we'll bring them as a video preview for you.
By the way, we brought you the video preview of the first scene, Questioning, so you can see how the final result turned out.
In this scene, you can see the voice of the main character and Lara, the police officer.
Tell us what you think about the choice of these voices, your feedback is important to know if we're going in the right direction.
That's all for today,
Cheers! 🍻

It is a very good idea. 👍
Glad to hear about the progress! While the effect of the voice dubbing can be very cool, sometimes I prefer reading texts to have my own mind give voices to the characters. Will we be able to turn the dubbing off but keep the music on in the new version? I can imagine wanting to have the music without the dubbing sometimes.
Yes, it's possible. The voices are considered as a different audio channel and a new volume control has been added to the options, so if the player prefers to play without the voice acting, simply turn down the voice volume to 0. Sorry, we forgot to talk about this in the post. Thanks for remember us! ^^
