Zelda Skyward Sword 4K Texture Pack 1.0.5 Update is out!

Good Morning All Patrons! šŸŒ…

I'm pleased to announce the release of the next update for Zelda: Skyward Sword 4K! This update includes many bug fixes and improvements. Most and foremost it includes full support for PS3, PS4 and even PS5 Dualsense controllers- including gyro controls. It also fixes the infamous "background blur bug" which plagued many users when they didn't have a very specific revision of the game, and much more!

Full Dualshock / Dualsense support!

This is something which should have been present from the start, but sadly wasn't due to me simply not owning a playstation gamepad to set it up with. Anyways, it's finally here! All you need to do to get your Playstation controller working perfectly is to install and start the included program fork called "DS4Windows", sounds familiar? The included fork also supports gyro input, which is necessary to play Skyward Sword in the most comfortable manner. Next, simply open up Zelda Skyward Sword 4K.exe and click on Input settings > Configure the first Emulated WiiMote slot and load the "PS5" preset in the top right. Then start the game. It's that easy! The controls behave almost identically to those of the Switch Pro Controller- so if you've used that previously you don't need to re-learn any bindings or anything.

This means that all the three major controller platforms are now fully supported! No matter what gear you've got, you'll be able to enjoy Skyward Sword 4K. And I love that!

Background Blur Removal now works on ALL western versions of the game!

This is a pretty huge change, believe it or not! Thanks to modder Anerion, there are now background blur removal codes for all revisions of the western versions of Skyward Sword! This means that no matter what revision your game rom is, you'll still be able to disable the distracting background blur. All you need to do is go into the game properties and check that the correct code is enabled for your particular revision. Doing this is super simple;

Right click Skyward Sword in the games list in Dolphin > Click "Properties" > In the "Info" tab, check your revision of the game. It should say either Revision 0, Revision 1 or Revision 2. > Go into the "Gecko Codes" tab in the same section, see if the correct code is enabled. Disable the other code and enable the correct one if it's not set to the right version by default.

That's it! Enjoy the game.

Updating from a previous version is super easy! All you need to do is this:

  • In the old texture pack's folder, open the "User" folder and copy the folders "Wii" and "StateSaves" to the exact same location but in the new texture pack's folder. Select "overwrite" if it asks!

  • You're done. Your save data has been successfully copied over! :)

Want to know how to use the emulated motion controls?

Check out the new video guide here!

There are two versions of the texture pack you get to select once you've downloaded it. One is the "Post Processing Edition", which includes all the post processing effects showcased in the trailer like ambient occlusion, tone mapping, bloom and more. The other version is the "Standard Edition" which doesn't include these features but has some other benefits instead.

The Post Processing Edition utilizes Ishiiruka Dolphin to achieve these features, which unfortunately means gamepad/ wiimotion plus emulation is not possible in this version- you must use a REAL wiiremote & nunchuck combo using an external device like the Dolphin Bar. It also requires Windows 7 or higher and a dedicated graphics card. The standard edition includes a controller preset for common gamepads like the Xbox One controller, which means you can play the game without using a real wiiremote & nunchuck! This version also alleviates some minor Dolphin bugs present in Ishiiruka Dolphin and support MacOS & Linux, too! Both versions look stunning so if you're uncertain I recommend you play the standard version- you won't miss out on anything big!

I made a short video on how to play using only a normal controller. Watch it here!

Enjoy!

This update, 1.0.5, is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published (in 1080p)!

There is also a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it! Please feel free to try it out!

Notice: The 4K version will look better than the 1080p version, even if you don't have a 4K display. This is because the 4K version has physically larger textures with more detail!

(Only available for the Dolphin Emulator on PC or mobile (Android/iOS), the texture pack does not work on real Wii or Wii U consoles).

You can find more information about all my HD texture pack here.

Read more information about the texture pack on my website!

You can find the download link and more information about the pack on this page here

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

How can I apply this to yuzu/Suyu/etc? Just rename the folder to the titleid of the game for switch?

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· March 28, 2025

This version is for the Wii version only, the Switch version of the pack is currently only on Ko-Fi https://ko-fi.com/henrikomagnifico

is there a link to the Switch version of this texture pack? I saw the post about it on your site but the download button just links me to this Patreon page which only has the Wii version...

When will yuzu and other platforms for switch emulation compatibilize custom textures? I can't wait to play skyward sword with 60 fps and your beautiful textures

I really hope you do it for yzu because the gameplay because it is much better than the wii one I can't play with cemu only because of the gameplay that is very bad for the normal controller

Will there be an 4k Texture update on Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess for May 2022?

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· April 11, 2022

I'm working very hard on updates for both texture packs, as well as other packs including Pikmin 2, Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D and Super Mario Sunshine- all of which will also receive updates as soon as they are ready. I cannot make any promises that Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword specifically will get updates in April or May, however I promise there will be updates for both texture packs before summer!

Hello sorry to bother you again but is there a way to push the game at 60 fps to get that smooth HD feel? Probably not but it’s worth it to ask

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· March 30, 2022

Hi! Unfortunately it's not possible in the Wii version of the game. Once Ryujinx or Yuzu add support for custom resolution textures, I will begin the process of porting this texture pack over to the Switch version which will make the game 60 FPS, plus lots of other nice improvements!

Hello the version of dolphin in this file keeps showing fifo shutting down while active can you help me pls?

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· March 23, 2022

Hi! This is a known error that usually is the result of either A. Not having the latest C++ Redist from Microsoft installed, which is required to use the Dolphin Development Builds or B. Using a .NKIT.ISO file, which is unsupported since it does not include all the necessary game data for cheat codes to run properly, or for the custom shaders to be applied correctly. Try the former suggestion first, and see if that fixes it! You can get C++ Redist from here: https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

my wiimote is synced with my other dolphine emulator, how do i sync it with this one?

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· October 20, 2021

Hi Gustavo! Are you using the Post Processing edition? Only the standard edition supports wiimotes through bluetooth, whilst the Post Processing edition does not and requires a real USB wii sensor bar or a Mayflash Dolphin Bar to be played. The Standard Edition should work just like regular Dolphin 5.0, however- and should work for you no matter what!

The full dualshock part does not work for me, when I load the PS5 profile, it says the controller is disconnected DSUClient/0/Ds4windows, if I change to xinput it'll connect, but I can't pass the press A button in the game first screen. I'm using a PS4 controller, also theres no profile or anything in the ds4windows version you provide, what should I do for it to work?

H
Henriko Magnifico Ā· October 20, 2021

Hi Diego! Have you tried restarting the emulator after starting up the included version of DS4Windows? Then it should say that the DSU client is connected.
