THE X-FILES WINS!! Help me decide how to watch it!!

Hi everyone! I am VERY EXCITED to announce that THE X-FILES will be our next Patreon Exclusive TV Show!

I know this is a long series and it could take a while to get through. I am totally down to watch the whole thing, but if you'd prefer I only do key episodes for plot, theme and character development, please let me know in the poll below!

CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED!!

I signed up for the $3 tier thinking that I would have access to your X-Files Full Length Reactions. But alas no. I did not check out the tier benefits first and of course when I did, I find that the $10 tier is the lowest priced tier that receives that access. I already have about $500 per year of Patreon commitments. Another $108 is not in the cards. Any chance of making "The X-Files" available to YouTube or the $3 monthly/$2.70 annual tier?

Travesty. We're a terrible fanbase. We simply can't demand that Kat watch the whole series. I love The X-Files but it's a daunting task. Why not something like Penny Dreadful? Dark and scary. Impeccable cast led by the amazing Eva Green. Exquisite writing. Beautifully photographed. And only 8 episodes in its first season.

Maybe only watch the first season now, then go back to it at a later time?

Oh thats too bad

Definitely watch the beginning seasons/episodes to see how Scully and Mulder’s relationship evolves. One of my favorite episodes is called, “Pusher”.

Reactor, Elie Moses has done 124 episodes and the first movie in 8 months and he keeps 3 TV series at a time going. I feel that if you are in the reaction business, no commitment is too big if you and your audience are enjoying the journey. If it becomes unenjoyable or views fall to too low of a level, then move on to the next thing.

Quite a few years ago they remastered the X-Files TV series for Satellite TV. Think it was the first time I saw the show upscaled to (almost) 4K quality, after having watched the og show on standard TV for so many years.

I would recommend all of the first 7 seasons. (I would say that there are only 11 episodes out of 161 episodes from the first 7 seasons that would rate a C or less, on a scale of A+ to F) Then do seasons 8 and 9 if you so choose. Then do seasons 10 and 11 if you can't stop yourself. If you go the key episodes route, you will inevitably get conflicting recommendations that will end up getting something wrong, i.e. skipping good or relevant episodes.

I would go for watching every episode...but maybe fans on patreon could tell you any episodes that are worth skipping...I'm a casual X-Files fan and don't know it by heart, but die-hard fans might be able to give insights on if there are any episodes each season that don't need to be viewed (either because they're filler or maybe just not great episodes...every show has them, lol) Also, since this is a long series, maybe take breaks in between each season and watch something else. Not another long show...but maybe a few episodes of The Twilight Zone or Cabinet of Curiosities? Those don't follow a narrative, so you could just google "best episodes of the Twilight Zone" and start there. That's how I started watching the show! But that could give you a break, so you don't get show fatigue! :)

I would say watch it til it gets bad i forget what season that is. Also watch the movie

I like the idea of watching every episode of the first two seasons and then deciding from there if you're still interested in every ep or if you want to skip around.

Good call, Kat! I say watch them all, and in order. There are enough call backs so that the order helps maintain continuity. A couple of my favorite episodes are 'Kill Switch' (S5E11) written by celebrated cyber punk author William Gibson dealing with AI. Lots of fun! And there is the dark and disturbing episode 'Home' (S4E2) wherein you will see a creeper has more uses than just working under your car. ;-)

I would say not to commit myself to watching them all; that should be left only to you. I would play it by ear, starting with some of the highest-rated or fan favorites.

L
Leftenant Crimson · October 7, 2025

I would recommend watching seasons 1 through 5. If you want to go past that you can, but those are the most solid episodes in my opinion. :)

X-files is one of those shows were every ep is a must watch, yes there are some weaker eps just like every show but they are still great, maybe there is a massive fan out there that has come up with only main overarching story eps, get comfy though because this will probably be your only show for the next 4 years, i tried working it out, there are 218 total episodes (including movies i think) and if you watch 1 ep a week thats just over 4 years. Although i will suggest that if season 1 doesnt captivate you, dont watch the rest because we'd hate to see you force yourself to watch 10 seasons worth of a show you dont enjoy, and the movies.

"tin foil hat" was my thought when I read help me decide how to watch it. Watch them all - comment on the ones you find great

This idea owns. Watching The X-Files while wearing a tinfoil hat so THEY can't read your mind.

K
Katie Jackson · October 7, 2025

The X-Files is definitely on the list of best TV series ever made. It truly defined the 90's and actually invented the term "Shipper". I know you'll love these, the first 7 seasons are some of the best and most consistently good of any series.

Watch all the episodes with David Duchovny. I have no interest in the others.

E
EmStonkers · October 7, 2025

personally I love the monster-of-the-week episodes so much more than the main storyline stuff, so I gotta go with ‘watch every ep!'

The commitment to watch EVERY SINGLE EPISODE is crazy insane! But to say only watch key episodes is just not keeping with your in depth nature. Not to mention I would hate to be the person to say which "key" episodes to watch! This one is close to my heart as I use to watch it with my mother every week when I was a kid. I lost her in 2020 to the VID. So this will be a happy and sad watch for sure. Can't wait to watch with you!

I think, based on my poor memory, you probably want to watch most early episodes and the multipart episodes. After that you can skip a TON of nonsense that they made to fill out the syndication replay value. I'm sure someone has put together a list of what is important to the overall plot while trimming out the monster of the week stuff. I can't imagine sticking with 218 episodes x 45min knowing what I know about the series and growing up with it.

K
Katie Jackson · October 7, 2025

A lot of The Monster Of The Week episodes are among the best of the series.

Q
Quinci · October 7, 2025

Do the stand-alone "Monster of the Week" episodes first. Lmk if you need me to list them.

I was torn between ash vs evil dead and the x-files. But I'm happy either way. Looking forward to HOURLY releases. I kid.
