On a light sail type of space craft, it depends on light for propulsion. Initially after launch, wouldn't the sun provide more photons than a laser system? Also, since the earth rotates, wouldn't the lasers have to be placed on various places on the planet to keep the photons going?
Good clip. Informative. I always look to see if the images I'm looking at are artistic renderings, but your information about artists interpreting scientific data was quite interesting. To Roman: sometimes you just have to let people go until they come to their senses; just my two cents.
Those pesky citizens wanting visible light photos, huh?
Off Topic but maybe you can help. Had lunch with a collegue who's normally quite intelligtent. Yet he started bombarding me with "scientific facts" which quite frankly are a ton of BS. He did so with an almost religious passion and dislike for actual science. Turning him around is not my intention buy do you have any advice on how to make people like that stop talking other then just shouting at them? Or maybe even something to "help" them? Scrolling silly comments online is one thing, but seeing an otherwise smart person going down that path is quite scary.
Unfortunately, you can't do much. Generally I suggest switching to the Socratic method, asking questions to help them probe the limits of what they understand, and how they'd find out if what they believe is true.
Doesn’t NASA still colorize pictures of the sun to be yellow?
As I said, almost all images are originally black and white.
