19:58 Solar eclipse 2026 and the Perseids

Drove 1450Km to watch the eclipse and it was totally worth it. The eeriness as the sunlight goes away, followed by that big ring in the sky, as if an eye is looking down on you is almost spooky. It was just awesome. Can't recommend it more. If you have the chance just go and watch an eclipse. As a bonus my wife took a great picture of the ring.

Holy geez. Where's the monthly patreon question show???
AI for sorting through data: This story alerted me about analysis of results obtained after using fake data to train an algorithm to get your results. Many fans probably know the points below, but I'm just saying anyway: (1) You know the set of results are a biased set. (2) You'll never know how it is biased until you have trained an algorithm on exclusively real examples of your specific requirements.

Morten, Denmark.. we had a fine eclipse though not full - some 85 pct, so darkness did not show. Nevertheless it was a spectacular evening and night. We stayed under blanquet and enjoyed orange skies as the sun 'overtook' the moon. Liked the part on Europa ; didn't catch though how the ice would eliminate craters - if water does not surface. ;-) Ice techtonics ? Sure I'll have the answer soon if I straigten my ears more.. Thank you for your effort and the load of knowlegde you put out to us
Thank you so much for putting back the link to the vote!
What ARE reaction wheels? And why do they suck?
I "like" almost every video I watch on YouTube. Unfortunately, I'm watching this on Patreon.
I just want to say that I had an awesome interview with Fraser earlier today! I’d encourage anyone who gets the chance to take up this offer as it’s amazing to chat to someone thousands of miles away (I’m in the UK). Fraser is very easy to talk to and the 15 minutes flew past.

Saw the (partial) eclipse (about 93% coverage from the uk) with a diy'd solar projector & that was quite neat. there were wisps of cloud so got to see them drift over the projected image giving lovely patterns. And enough coverage to feel the temperature drop & the light change which is nice. Went up & watched for perseids for about an hour from a local hill top. still a fair bit of sky glow ftom nearby towns/villages, but saw a few faint ones, plus one that was bright enough to see while the sky was still a little bit light, & later one that was big & bright enough to be green & have some shape to it rather than just being a line, so feel like I did pretty good for the conditions. I love it when you can see colour on meteors! This is the second time I've gone to see meteors after seeing perseids a few years ago with a friend. Both times very much helped by your coverage & suggestions, so thanks again!

Hi Fraser, When the Earth goes through meteor debris we see shooting stars. What are the odds any of this debris can hit something as large as the ISS? Thanks to you and your team.
Don Pettit by the way is a NASA astronaut currently in active rotation and has over 500 hours in space. His last mission which I think was this year he landed in Soyuz on his 70th birthday. He and his wife Micki are very approachable and they were nice enough to celebrate my wife’s birthday on the day of the eclipse because it was Micki’s birthday too. Made the week very special on top of the Eclipse.
I am in Spain this week with the Sky&Telescope Eclipse tour group led by Kelly Beatty and his wife. Got to meet Don Pettit and his wife Micki. It was a great week and eclipse day I recorded it in time-lapse for the full hour and a half. My wife got a great shot of totality and as the sun/moon leaving both dipped under the horizon and that was it. Very good experience. This is my third eclipse and this experience never gets old. I’m going to Egypt Luxor next year with the same group.
