Fraser, I've watched episode: Why Did Mars Lose Its Atmosphere? And How Can We Get It Back? Could L1 shield be used to protect Earth from solar storms, like Carrington Event?
In theory it should work the same for Earth too. But I don't know what's involved to block a solar storm versus the ongoing solar wind.
Hey Fraser. Speaking of images of the Cosmic Web, have you seen the latest Space Engine release? It's version 0.9.8. So much has been added and fine tuned, it's a completely different experience! It's REALLY gorgeous.

Thanks for the videos. When I have been to a couple of dark sky sites in the U.S., I can see the Milky Way, after a while... after my eyes acclimate to the darkness. Have you been to the southern hemisphere in a dark sky site? If so, does the view of the Milky Way improve? Thanks again.
I haven't yet, but I'm going to be going in July. I can't wait to see the night sky from the southern hemisphere. The Magellanic Clouds!
