Supernova remnants should be stable. All the action is long gone. But newly found supernovae in M87 unexpectedly show signs of rapid change. Why does this happen? Nobody really nows yet.

Fascinating interview, thank you. The whole topic of neutron / quark stars and black holes is both mind-stretching and intriguing, more interviews on these please! Light pollution is a frustrating problem here in the Central Belt of Scotland, with several big urban and industrial areas close together, good to hear that some places in the USA have done something about it.

This variable remnants sound like perfect fodder for Vera Rubin. (Commented 6:55 into the vid. This is probably pointed out 5 seconds later. OH WELL! And at 20:18 - There it is! I'm feeling super smart right now.

? Would the density difference in the early universe be a factor in how gas is directly collapsing into SMBHs and then furiously feeding on all the remaining high density gas around it? and of course... DUST!!! ;)

They make awesome 2100k led bulbs now that I use in my outdoor lights, which I've all switched to downfacing fixtures. It makes my yard so nice at night to only have the minimal light needed to get around, none of it getting in your eyes, and have it be a super warm, soft light.
